Reaktor 5 or lower

DESCRIPTION

Version 4.2 is for Reaktor 5. you can still download a
version for Reaktor 4. click on "show other versions" in the menu.

VERSION 4 changes in how controllers send data to synth
parameters. hopefully this means CPU problems on certain windows machines are a thing of the past. other improvements and bug fixes, to create a better sound with more Rnd possibilities.

version 4 uploaded 14/04/05

version 3 bug fixes and enhancements. 20/1/05

Version 2 uploaded 12/1/05

This just spews out experimental electronic sounds.

You can try to control it by clicking and holding the cursor on the XY.

You can also play grabbed "Sound-Objects" by clicking. holding and dragging.

A click, will change the settings and how they modulate.

but you are never really in control, are you;-)

Thanks (and apologies) to Kristian Thom for Auralis (the synth that is being mangled)

Thanks to Dieter Zobel (Panner) and David Coffin (for his Reaktor Tutorial, which inspired the modulations).

This is a work in progress....comments (positive or negative) are more important than votes.

This is an Ensemble, and a piece of music.

Is it useful or not...is there a point in it, or not....is it music, or not?

.....you decide.

N.B. Known Bug........there is some periodic "Reaktor style Aliasing" going on. at the moment i can't find where it is coming from......any ideas?

also thanks to Electroluddite for some "theoretical" information

I've not given many .ens files a 10 vote. This is one of them, though. May Karlheinz Stockhausen rest in peace knowing his legacy lives on.

Now that my old PC is not more, gone to meet his makers and so on, I re-installed all of your ensembles on my newer machine, what a delight. And thanks for a pm over at KVR :-), (Klemperer there).

Excellent! A little high on CPU usage (avg for my G4 PB was 35%), so it may not make the most useful plug-in. So, record instead, and import the wavs. Thanks!

Yessss, this version is perfect! I'm on a PC P4 3.2 GHz, and I had CPU overload problems with the previous version. I think this is a really great ensemble, and I especially like the user interface, and the way you interact with the ensemble. The randomization is really brilliant also, with all those moments of silence of different lengths, and when suddenly the reverb kicks in. As to the question of control or not, it is not so much a question of control to me. It is more like the interface allow you to participate in an event to a certain degree. Much like many situations in life, actually. I don't know if I should say this, but I have never heard Stockhausen. Actually, I have no background in music, other than as a listener without any knowledge of the history of music. I have always liked music, but at some point in my life I just happened to fall in love with sound. BTW, there is no need for apologies :-) I think it is great if other builders can find things of use from my ensembles, and the more they mangle it, the better it is. This ensemble is a wonderful example of how one can take parts from other ensembles, and create something unique and interesting. The way you have put the Auralis engine to use and mangled it in this ensemble, makes it sound entirely different from my Auralis ensemble, and that is just how it should be. Great work, and thanks!

works great...also by shutting off midi out on a lot of mac-made ensembles I'm now able to run them with low cpu readings. thanks again for updating this.

Hi Hansi, Kari and other users who have had problems on windows machines. please try the new update. hopefully this has cured the MIDI feedback problems that were cause your CPU to max out. VERSION 4 IS HERE, AS OF APRIL 2005.

Doesn't work on my 2.8GHz P4. Freezes Reaktor 4.1.3. I have to restart my computer to get ASIO working again.

oh, how i wish this worked. crashed my computer every time so i couldn't rate it. just thought i'd let you know. your other ensembles are incredible.

I had to reinstall several times before it functioned properly. I have a 1.7 G P4. Set control rate to 200 and sample rate to 32000Hz; did not have to reduce voices. Excellent build!!

How sweet it is! Surround-sound aleatoric rumblings and chirpings, sounding as if they came straight from the man who gave us cellos in helicopters. I didn't even have to go back in time to the World's Fair! Beautiful!

hey phil, same problem here as stephen described (P4, XP); and you're right, i've encountered the same prob with other user lib ensembles, notably those by rachmiel - basically it renders most of the rachmiel stuff unusable... shame, i would have loved to jump in with the stockhausen discussion :(

yes and yes and yes.... Reaktor in general is an excellent tool for realizing what the avant garde 20th century composers were dreaming of for this century's music.... but why tell you since you clearly know this by virture of your Reaktor creations... creations that are not only making their dreams reality but also expand upon them... this goes for most all the inventive people posting on this site.... thanks for your interesting work Phil

p.s. - If you got the right flow going with this Phil I'd devote a whole CD a la Morty just to this ensemble and Morty. kind of a la For Philip Guston - a 4 cd set that knocks you out when played back to back - and in my case LOUD - sorry morty - so I can hear all the nuances! also as Morty has said to me before ----Think GESTURE! Gestures Phil..... matter of fact that is part of the title of my new piece using your new Grains ensemble that I have been working on all last night and already this early A.M.!!!!

Phil - I am in on this one if I can tell - I have known and performed and hung out with Morty and all the people recording his stuff and studied with them for over 35 years so please do count me in if only another point of theoretical and conceptual analysis! Cool - Nice idea David - I was thinking the same thing last night! You beat me to it!

ok, try this. ok stephen..a couple of ideas 1. reduce the number of voices in the "Auralis" instrument to 3 or even 2 (i think it is on 4 at the moment) 2. increase the buffer size of your reaktor audio settings. this might reduce the CPU overload?
Phil Durrant
stephen, i don't know what to say...i made this on a Mac Tibook, 1.33Ghz and only 256 MB RAM. CPU level is 26-32% using the Mac soundcard. do you have problems with other .ens that us a lot of Random Modulation, such as kev hopper's stuff? i know other windows people sometimes have have problems...... are you using XP? or an earlier OS.

hi Herwig, i also turned reaktor on one day and fornd that my sttings had changed. strange;-) thanks for pointing that out. and Kev, maybe it should be 1955 BC.

Hi Phill, finally i found the reason of clicking (in your and Ernests ensembles): it was the system setting in REAKTOR: latence 1ms (!!??!). I don't know when i set it to 1ms or if it was set by updating. I changed audio settings latence to 3ms and all is working fine. Now I can enjoy your and Ernests ensemble.

you have a point about the reverb....i will think about that...thanks everyone.

It's been a while since someone used the XY as an event triggering mouseboard and it's a real pleasure to see it back again. Very Stockhausen - sudden whooshes and cavenous RM bloops. Perhaps it could do with a more antique sounding reverb/echo for the full Stock effect? Something a bit rougher than the one you're using?

This is very, very intresting..I'm particularly impressed with the controllers you have made here..I'll be digesting this excellent work of yours for some time with a good deal of "How did he think of that..?". Be proud of this work, definately :) That panner by Mr. Leboz is pretty shnazzy as well.. Very inspirational, much thanks!

brilliant! between this and spoomer's Crumble i'm in freeform electronic heaven! the sounds are great ... but it's the flow that really does the trick for me: it navigates the sparse/dense spectrum wonderfully, with sudden climaxes and long reposes ... very stockhausen. :-)
Norman Skiba

P.S. Stockhausen would be Proud/Joyous at this ensemble.

Phil! It is one of the best I have heard and tried! Excellent work! IT IS music! I have no such aliasing - but then again not sure what you guys mean by that - re: clicks - Notta! Only one suggestion which I emailed you about, and that is some way of controlling the density of sounds - i.e. sparse, medium, dense.....that could be a randomized type of setting that functions within those parameters - the probable change that we discussed in many emails.... I myself for a new CD of esperimental stuff I am working on this year could use this ensemble but with a more sparse sound dynamic re: density of sounds generated! Maybe it is in there - but not knowing Reaktor I have not found it yet. I like this a lot! Beautiful! :-) !!!!!!

hi gabriel, in truth this part of a submission (also a response to rachMiel's challenge) for a "media-productions" module on my MA in Sonic Culture. so i am also having to write up a lot of stuff, including a "Critical Analysis" of what i have created. so yes start a generative art thread on the forum, that would be great :-)
gabriel mulzer
there is not enough room to discuss this, so just short - the interface, drag - move - is good, the soundengine is too .. maybe I ll post something general in the forum on generative art .. and g.a. in reaktor especially hewrs propblem seems to be a performance issue btw

clicking? when does this happen? when you change states? other times?. i made this on a 12" tibook 1.33Ghz. i get periodic aliasing but no clicks. i don't think i get clicks on ernest's stuff either but will check. thanks for the comment, i will look into it.

Hi Phil, very impressive and yes it's music. But (sorry) there is a massive clicking depending from control rate (400Hz on mac G4 733)- only a few clicks at 100Hz, noise on >1600Hz. I recognized same phenomenon in the ensembles of Ernest Meyer.
