DESCRIPTION

Here’s a synth for reaktor that I hope comes in handy. MGF Crisscross (MGF CX-1) is a 3 osc, 2 filter synth with 3 lfos and 4 breakpoint envelopes for modulation. What I aimed to do with CX-1 was to provide as many options as I could fit within the smallest space without confusing the user. CX-1 is full of drop-down menus with dozens of osc, shaping and filter types which are either original or adapted from modules from the reaktor library. The overall design of the synth was largely inspired by the Alesis Micron / Ion and the Roland Alpha Juno.

Here are some tips for how it works:

- View A sets osc, env and tone settings. View B is for modulation routings.

- Select an osc type and optional distortion mode. Use fbal to send to filter 1 (top) and filter 2 (bottom).

- Some osc types use PW for things other than pulsewidth. Try playing around with different waves with an lfo on PW.

- Select a filter mode (or bypass with “Off). When ->F2 is maxed, the entire of F1’s output will be sent into the second filter and direct output will be silenced creating a serial routing.

- Use INV to invert the output from the filter and mix with the dry input, which can create different filter types.

- F2 mode determines if the cutoff for the second filter is set independently or as an offset as the cutoff of F1.

- P/FM on will enable or disable all frequency and pitch modulation for designated oscillators.

- Osc Mode changes the way the oscillators function and allows FM synthesis and the titular “cross” modulation where OSC3 crossfades between OSC1 and 2. The standard, subtractive mode is 1+2+3.

- LFOs sync to tempo not by changing the wave shape or speed but simply by resetting at a clock synced rate. Turn this on by hitting the button next to the clock division menu for each LFO. PW affects the trapezoid steepness.

- Envelopes are 4 point, similar to ADSR where L3 is the sustain point but the user can set other breakpoints in the envelope with L1 and L2. T4 is the release time and Vel ties velocity to the envelope depth.

- Use the EQ to shape the tone of the final sound

I guess that’s about it, I’ve included a dozen presets but I haven’t exactly explored all the options so dive in and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

yes it certainly was a questionable design decision on my part, i'll admit. will fix this soon.

great interface design, but the yellow font could use a tiny outline to make it properly readable on the light background :) but overall my screen-space says thank you thank you thank you :D

strange about the standalone, though I'll admit I only ever use reaktor as a VST so wouldn't have tested it on its own. can't think why it'd be any different but i'll look into it.

I'm not able to get any sound from it when I open it in standalone. In a host, it works fine... :) Thanks, I really like this interface and approach with the modulation routing on a separate page.

This certainly reminds me of that 'brassy' sound of my old Micron, which I regret selling, nice concept and execution!

noticed the mute wasn't working properly for OSC3 so i've uploaded a new version that should be fine now. The mute is mainly useful for FM and cross modes as OSC3 volume affects FM / cross amount but you may want to silence the output to the filters and just use it as a modulator. hope it works ok now, thanks for downloading :)
