GENERAL INSTALLATION FAQ
1.
Q: I have just downloaded a TRAKTOR update via Service Center. What's the recommended way to install it?
A: After downloading an update, start the installer and follow the onscreen instructions. If it's a "new generation" update (like you're going from PRO 1 to PRO 2), we recommend installing in a fresh folder (e.g. named "TRAKTOR PRO 2"). If you are installing an updated version for the same generation (e.g. TRAKTOR PRO 2.0.3 to TRAKTOR PRO 2.1.2), installing an update in the same folder is fine.
2.
Q: I'm running a "smaller" TRAKTOR product like TRAKTOR LE 2. If I decide to upgrade to TRAKTOR PRO 2, can I just enter my new serial number via NI Service Center or do I have to do a fresh install?
A: You don't have to do a fresh install, but you should first download the latest TRAKTOR PRO 2 update via Service Center and install it as described above. You then need to upgrade your serial number as follows:
- Close TRAKTOR
- Start Service Center and login using your NI user account
- Open the "Overview" tab
- Find TRAKTOR LE 2 and press the "Upgrade" button of the TRAKTOR LE 2 product
- Enter your TRAKTOR PRO 2 serial
- Press the "Activate" button
- Restart TRAKTOR

Q: Will anything special happen when I start TRAKTOR PRO 2 for the first time?
A: When you start TRAKTOR PRO 2 for the first time, a dialog will show up that asks you if you want to copy TRAKTOR's root folder, allowing you to roll back to the previous version if it should become necessary at any point. You should click 'OK' so that all relevant files from your previous version will be copied into the new TRAKTOR 2 root folder. This is the recommended approach, but you should make sure you have sufficient hard drive space. Music files will not be copied, but your TRAKTOR collection, playlists, BPM and beat grid information, cue points, etc. will be copied. If you do not click 'OK' to this dialog, TRAKTOR PRO 2 will open with an empty Collection only containing the factory content.
4.
Q: I have just bought a TRAKTOR product with a newer generation of software than the one I used in the past. Is there a possibility to install two different TRAKTOR generations, e.g. for a transition period?
A: Different generations of TRAKTOR are always installed 'side-by-side' by default. So you will be able to use the newer and also the older generation for a short transition period. A word of warning though: Do not maintain your TRAKTOR Collection using two different generations of TRAKTOR simultaneously. This is because each generation of TRAKTOR will be using its own copy of the Collection. Changes you make in one generation will NOT be synchronized to the other.
5.
Q: How can I make sure that I keep all my preferences, controller mappings etc. before installing an update?
A: You can export all or just important parts of your settings using the "Export" button in TRAKTOR's preferences dialog. These settings will be written to a file with a .tsi extension. Similarly, you can import the settings file later using the "Import" button in the preferences.
