FX patterns

Hey euklides,

thanks for opening this thread:-)

let me add something to the stack FX section:

***
add an input module to lets say sound 1 in group B
add an fx to this sound
route output of Group A to the input module
now record automation of the FX to different patterns of group B

you'll have different FX patterns now, that you can use for different sources ...

This totally makes my day, thanks for pointing out this amazing possibility, konsequenz! Maschine gets better and better!

On Mac, there is an application called Screenflow for $99. Amazingly easy to work with. I ended up editing the whole thing here rather than putting it in iMovie (which I find confusing).

Cool way of working with Audio, Video, and Text. Feels just like working with a DAW.

While I enjoy the kits that come with Maschine, sometimes I want to take the best shots from different kits and combine them in a new group, to save as a different kit.

Just load a kit into Group A, find the shots you like, and drag the "sound" into Group B in the arrangement window. Then load a different kit into Group A, and repeat the process.

The sounds will just load onto the next available pad in Group B. Then rename the kit and save it as a new kit. Easily inspires. :)

thats what i did recently with some of the percussion kits. grabbed a bunch of different sounds from different kits and mixed them together in my own pattern. really fun and you can find some great stuff that works well together this way.

it's funny cuz i did that and then saved it all and came back to it later half forgetting i did it. i played it and it sounded so dope. i said to myself, 'oh sh*t! I made that?' i almost couldnt believe it

Maschine Tips + Tricks | Add Your Own!

endpop.com | Maschine 1.1 Tips & Tricks
-----------------------------------------------
Here is a short list of Forget Me Nots for Native Instruments' Maschine, Version 1.1... I hope they are useful to you!

Scene / Pattern Audio Export:
------------------------------------
Make sure 'Loop Optimize' is enabled in the Export Audio options or your exported audio will not be right in Ableton.

Quantize:
-------------
You turn Quantize on or off in Keyboard Mode. It remains on or off when you play the Pads. Press the keyboard button and you will see it in the left display. This is also why when grid is on that Quantize may appear to not be working!

Midi Out:
-------------
On maschine select source in the right panel. Press shift browse and you should see Midi Out listed. Have Maschine's virtual midi "on" in preferences.

The Group buttons behave differently depending on what Mode the Controller is in. In MIDI Mode, the Group buttons change Octaves. Group E selects the Octave where Pad 1 starts at C3. Group F, selects the octave where Pad 1 starts at C4. etc, etc. When the Maschine Controller is in Maschine Mode, the Group buttons select the 8 different Groups in the Maschine Software.

Metronome Volume:
---------------------------
If you want to adjust the volume of the metronome hold shift + play buttons pressed down and turn the master volume knob!

Default Pattern Length + Custom Metronome:
-------------------------------------------------------
Set up a project with your chosen pattern length and save it as New project, overwriting the previous default one. Another cool thing about doing this is that you can set up a pad on group H or something with a default hi hat sample playing 8th notes as a metronome. This way, it is easy to both mute and it sounds pleasing and musical.

More on Midi In:
-----------------------
Activate the 'Maschine_Controler Input' under Preferences -> Midi sync. Then set the receiving track to get midi from 'Maschine Controler Input' and set the right channel. Don't confuse the track, the device in that track and the hardware midi in & out of Maschine, as that can also happen.

ADD YOUR OWN!

Production tips:
------------------

missing the "killer sound" in your track?
play two or more standard boring sounds together, tweak them, filter them, distort them. record to a new pad - voila!

never underestimate the power of stereo. take the same sound twice, one hard panned left, the other right and play them slightly shifted.

Keep your group levels down. Go to Master -> Source and set all groups to at least -6, then you'll have room to get sounds really punchy in your mix.

more to come

Drum grooves/ drum replacement:
----------------------------------------

Although maschine doesn't have any groove extraction/ quantisation, there's a workauround from the old recycle days.
Import a loop from samples or a song where you like the "feel" of the drums.
Slice it using the "Trans" mode.
Now you have the staircase pattern, group each type of drum (kick, snare, hat etc...) in one line. Copy each type to a seperate sound slot in a new group, and transpose/pitch the sequence so it's at it's normal pitch.
Now you can quickbrowse through different samples for each sound, while the sequence is running, and make it your own/ copy the feel from it.

Any chance of turning this thread into a sticky?

That's pretty slick res308, I never thought to do that.

making knobs more sensitive
----------------------------------

If you want to change your knob-adjustments in finer steps, press shift and rotate the knobs.

Thx guys, just something i remembered from a future music tutorial about reason/recycle.

You can also use slice/ apply to (if the loops don't have more then 16 slices) to another group, wich leaves you with even more possibilities for quickbrowsing.
For example if the original loop has one hihat that repeats a few times, you can experiment by changing the hihat for 2 different/ alternating ones.

keep the tips coming, great thread endpop!
