For anyone on a Mac using soundflower to sample computer audio: since the setting can't stay on too long without getting redundant and making noise, I used the Automator application (not to be confused with Maschine's automation) to create a batch file of sorts to perform the 3 steps.
So now under Applications I just have to hit either "Sample Internal" or "Sample External" and it changes my settings and turns on/off soundflower. Might save you a few seconds but if you sample this way a lot and have problems keeping soundflower running, it might make you enjoy it more :) If interested, let me know if you need more clarification! |
thats a good idea, one day when i get the chance I'm gonna try that (never used automator b4)
|
Neither had I flux...it was pretty easy though took some playing around.
Pick the application mode for automator so you get a file you can run afterwards. I did it in 3 steps. 1. I used the "record" button in automator to bring up Maschine from the dock then click file etc. to change settings. 2. Repeat step one but changed the sound preference under system settings or whatever it's called. 3. Automator has a "launch app" function that I used to launch soundflower. For the opposite it's basically the same. Just change settings back and have automator close soundflower so you can sample externally again! When I run the files they only take a couple seconds. It's not a huge saver, but it's a nice convenience :) |
euklides - I just tried your velocity start point trick. Love it. But here is the thing - you can make it even crazier. Instead of doing it with a single sound, try sampling a whole scene or group of scenes into 1 pad and apply your settings. Then when you play back that part of your song, use that pad along with note repeat.
Something with a lot of range is nice because you end up hearing a lot of sounds. I forgot to mention you need to play with the SFO settings. Set sync to on and play with rest of the settings. |
Here's a tip that I think hasn't been mentioned yet.
You can automate most of the effects and filters, etc. in Maschine. With record engaged grab the outer rim of anything controlled with a knob. Its basically the little indicator led like thing that shows the amount or position. If you move that around while recording, the movements will show up in the controller lane at the bottom of the pattern. kinda cool for automating cutoffs for hi hats or reverb wet/dry mix etc. without assigning it to a macro and automating in your host. |

Has anyone noticed? There IS a way to rearrange scenes!

When you select an event/note/sound:
colonyrecords mentioned in another thread that you can hold SELECT and use the swing knob to move selected notes along the grid rather than use nudge! Works well. Just as cool is if you're holding SELECT and using the tempo knob you can change the pitch/speed of selected events and using the VOLUME knob while again holding SELECT changes the velocity that the pad was hit on whatever you have selected. This was news to me...didn't notice it in the reference guide either. EDIT: Make sure BUTTON2 is selected while SELECT is held ("Events") |

EDIT: Actually when checking there is a section showing how to select individual notes (events) and also a section on how to use the rotaries stated when pressing the pad for velocity pitch. I have updated this to make it clearer in the quick ref and will upload when there are more changes made |
Oh ok, my mistake! I just skimmed through to look and didn't see it...I'll look harder next time!

To be honest the more hints and tips people come up with the better i can make the guide. I reckon that the workflow tips will be the best received as people find faster and more interesting ways to do things |

Guys, not sure if anyone noticed but as of v1.5, you can save samples as REX (Rx2) directly in maschine. This way you don't have to go out of the Maschine environment. Load up a sample into a sound slot > Slice it up > from the Edit or Slice screen, click on the little drop down arrow on the top right where it tells you the length of the sample>Save sample as>Select Rx2 from the drop down list>You can now then load up a REX version of your sample and go crazy. Well, not literally crazy 'cause we wouldn't want that. lol. EnjoyBeatworkx wrote: Guys, not sure if anyone noticed but as of v1.5, you can save samples as REX (Rx2) directly in maschine. For people using patterns longer than 2 bars who want to see the full pattern...
If you hold NAVIGATE you'll see some pads lit up. Pads 1, 2 ,3 and 6 control the "pattern" section of the software and pads 9, 10, 11 and 14 control the "scene" area. They work like arrow keys on a keyboard so: PAD2 and PAD6 control zoom (out and in, respectively) for the pattern and PAD1 and PAD3 scroll the screen left and right. This works the same for the other four pads to control the scene view... What I haven't been able to figure out is what PAD4 and PAD8 do. From what I remember they also light up but I don't see any changes. If anyone out there knows, please share! |
