I know many of us have asked for a way to link pads, thanks to some logical thinking by one of our own, there is a workaround

This is direct from F Major, he hit me up on my Facebook maschine group :)

Simplified version:

Group-> Sound Batch MIDI setup,

Sounds to MIDI notes.

Select 2 pads to group/layer right click on the sounds and assign them to the same Midi note.

Example Pad #1= C3, Assign Pad #5 to C3, they are now both linked.

Yes I know it seems simple, but it makes sense, this is EXACTLY how I layer sounds in Ableton Live drum racks, I just assign pads to the same note, for some reason I never thought to apply this to the "sounds to midi notes" setting.

Enjoy :D

I'll probably do a video on it.

Big shout to my bro F Major

6. use the step sequencer and note repeat. put the velocity setting for a sound to something weird besides volume, turn on note repeat and lean on and off the pad (the velocity difference'll change the parameter modulated in time with your note-repeat quant-...)
How does one set the velocity to something other than volume?

wow this is useful! Is there anyway this can be made into a subforum so the tips can have their own headings and easily navigated? This is seven pages long with a lot a kudos (well deserved, of course), but a lot of good nuggets may get buried... jsut a suggestion.

Just read one page at a time...feel free to compile all the posts you think are helpful and maybe share that doc ;)

Hey All, this was just discovered by accident this week. Am not sure if it'll be that important to anyone but since we're talking tips & tricks, here it goes:

You can cycle through/change patterns with the "+ and -" signs on your Keypad. Make sure numlock is on.
The "* and /" signs allows you to switch through the Banks as well. ie, Bank A, Bank B, etc.

Shift+2 and 3 on the Keypad allows you to switch between Groups.

Shift+4 and 6 on the keypad allows you to change Scenes.

The Quantize/Step Grid can be changed with the numbers on the keyboard as well. 1-9 = 1/1 - 1/128. Shift+1-9 = 1/1T-1/128T. 0=OFF

Now, am not sure when and if this will come in handy but then you never know.

First, great tips everyone. This is great stuff...

Second, I noticed that nobody has answered whether or not you can sample from the internet on a pc in the same manner as a mac? SoundFlower obviously isn't an option for me... Any thoughts?

What type of audio interface do you have? I have a motu 828 mk3 and it allows you to record anything that's coming thru your soundcard. There's also a program called virtual audio cable that allows you to do this.

I'm a newb to the Maschine.... Question....

Can you upload tracks and or samples that you have already created and have saved on you computer? If so, can you PLEASE tell me the steps to do this? I tried, and wasn't able to do it. I feel like I'm just being dumb and missing a step.

Thanks!

Infernotelegraph 21-05-2010 21:54

BitterSugar, you have to select Disk (under file- edit-view-help) and to specify the folder on your hard drive (it doesn't support mp3 files, wave is ok).

this was posted by sainjoe not by me

I know you all have seen me post different methods of using Maschine to sequence vsts by using various daws as an instrument rack, but it really just never felt "natural" to me.

It was always a little cumbersome.

Today I just spent some time figuring out exactly what I wanted to accomplish, and how I wanted to work, and using Maschine as the sequencer for Live was what I wanted.

Both standalone, Live can sync to Maschine's midi clock if I want it to, midi drag and drop into Live separates each pattern into it's own clip to line up perfectly with the instruments I'm running in Live. I LOVE Live's session view for working out my songs.

This is really the workflow I've wanted. I had made a template for Live just to hold vst plugins, but I never worked it out fully to have it synch with Maschine or even messed with the midi drag and drop (I messed with this before midi drag and drop was added)

Only thing I would like to add to this workflow is the ability to drag audio directly from Live onto a Maschine sound/pad :) I didn't actually try it yet, so I'm not sure if it works but if it does that would be very dope...if not, it is a feature request :)

Anyway, if you have live and maschine, definitely check this video out. Even if you don't, it is still helpful as I'm sure you could set this up with any other DAW

16x Mono Outputs in Logic: Solved!

Here is a video showing how it works, I apologize for the quality and the watermark....I would write the steps out but I don't have the patience.....it's pretty straight forward so you should be able to figure it out......This work around is not without it's flaws.....namely you have a ton of aux's in your mixer, I just color coded mine as above in the picture to make it easier to figure out what is what.......the picture above also shows the window you see when you "Long Click" on the mono stereo selection button, which is the main part of this whole trick.....the rest you should be able to figure out from the video, even though it's super blurry.......Let me know if you have questions....enjoy

Edit: Just experimented a little and realized you can substitute audio tracks in place of the aux's above, which has the benefit of being able to bounce your group down.....as I realized that one of the drawbacks to aux's are you can only use this method for one group.....if you use audio channels though, you can set up as many groups as you like, 16 audio channels per group, and bounce each group separately in at the most 8 takes if you're using all eight groups, that's a whole lot faster than dragging 128 files to your daw....
