Here is the script from nickdk to stop all un-necessary services...! ... nice one nick...!

This works on 64 bit Windows 7 pro.

USE AT OWN RISK - AND PLEASE TEST THIS BEFORE YOU RUN IT BEFORE YOUR NEXT GIG

copy and paste this into an empty notepad and save as either .cmd or .bat

Run it as administrator (right click and select "Run as administrator) if you have UAC enabled, and press "y" every time you're prompted. When it says "Done", press any key to close the window.

Please note that this removes basically all kinds of networking and internet security, so do NOT EVER CONNECT your computer to the internet after running this. ALWAYS reboot first.

@echo off
net stop BITS
net stop Wlansvc
net stop Dhcp
net stop NlaSvc
net stop EapHost
net stop FDResPub
net stop Netman
net stop netprofm
net stop nsi
net stop WinDefend
net stop wuauserv
net stop MpsSvc
net stop Browser
net stop DPS
net stop FDResPub
net stop IKEEXT
net stop iphlpsvc
net stop Spooler
net stop PcaSvc
net stop seclogon
net stop wscsvc
net stop LanmanServer
net stop SSDPSRV
net stop lmhosts
net stop Themes
net stop upnphost
net stop SDRSVC
net stop WSearch
net stop LanmanWorkstation

echo.Done
pause>nul
exit

And please be advised that this does not remove services such as things related to Itunes, Java, Adobe reader, flash etc. etc. ONLY WINDOWS INTERNAL SERVICES. Please clean up your own 3rd party services manually if you think they might be the cause of your problems.

If anyone gives it a try then please report back and let us know how you've got on....!

Wow, and a lot of people saying Windows is better than OS X?

How can that be, when you have to switch off pretty much all the functions of the PC.

You don't see people giving tips on Mac optimisation.

I'm not emphasising the mac vs pc issue, rather it is quite disappointing that some PC users have to do this just to get one piece of software to work to "optimum" level.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not b*tching, just disappointed!

It is fantastic that people are offering tips to stop any CPU overload issues, so keep it up Traktor family !

Take out one instance of "net stop wuauserv" - I put it in there twice by mistake. (removed in quote to avoid being copy pasted from there anyway)... doesn't really matter.. it will just say service is already stopped every time, which is kind of silly.

Those are telling me to actually turn auto sleep off, so if anything, it is advising NOT to turn things off.

Simple things like keeping HD about 50% full is common practice.

There is nothing in that link that is any where near as drastic as windows tips, where they say turn wifi off, turn anti virus off etc

Try again....

No need to try again. it's still optimization, just not as you say "any where near as drastic".
Your turn...

I don't quite follow you here, but disabling auto-sleep would be a good idea.

If by "HD" you mean Hard Drive (the conventional abbreviation being HDD, ie HardDisk Drive) then keeping 50% free is a an over simplistic and overkill rule.

You need enough to allow for ocassinal defragmenting (15% IIRC).

You also need enough for your paging file, which used to be recommended at 1.5 times the amount of RAM but we have so much RAM nowadays that if you are only running Traktor, 1.5 may be overkill. I use 8 Gig (equal to my RAM). Check Task Manager to see how much is being used and decide for yourself.

You also ought to make the max and min the same, otherwise the size can be changing in the middle of your DJ'ing, and glitch your audio. If you have this fixed size for your paging file there is no need to "leave" room for paging because it will be assigned immediately.

And if you can assign the paging file to a HDD seperate from your Windows HDD that will also speed things up. Usually not an option with laptops (though I have two HDD's in my wierd Acer TravelMate 7730).

turning wifi and bluetooth off are also very common mac tips.

however, if anybody is going into a mac-vs-pc thread - those postings are gonna be deleted.

Also you could run a free registry cleaner if you use your laptop for everyday use as well as traktor...!

CCleaner is a common one..!

http://www.piriform.com/

just run it after you've been online or changed anything on your lappy and it will clear out cookies and fix missing registry issues..!

Just a quick tip regarding AVG. couldn't previously be disabled easily, but now has the option to 'disable temporarily until next restart' in the latest update. Right click the avg icon in the task bar to locate the option...

Seems to make quite a difference without having to resort to complicated process killing.
