Collection Database

Does Beatport SYNC use the same Database (collection.nml) as Traktor 3?

So can I use Beatport SYNC to manage my Traktor 3 playlists and track collection?

Does it analyse the files and create stripes?

If so it would make a great tool for managing your collection without having to fire up Traktor every time.

You have to manually set the paths to match T3's, then yes to all questions.

For sure you can share the same collection files amongst Traktor LE, Traktor Scratch, Traktor 3.3 & Beatport Sync.

Hi all,

Beatport Sync has turned out to be a nice tool for auto-playing at gigs and track management. Just started using it this weekend. Very nice.

My question:
If I run TS and Sync at the same time, sharing the same collection (in the main Traktor3 folder), and obviously same playlists, if I reorder a Playlist in Sync to play a few tracks, it won't show in TS, correct? (I tried this yesterday, and it seems to not show the change in realtime)

THEN.....

Upon closing the apps, each saves the collection. Since they're sharing the same Collection file, is the last app closed overwriting the Collection? That means that we could potentially lose changes to the collection made on one or the other. Am I wrong?

Thanks!

The collection can be updated by any of the various Traktor applications.

So if you're shutting down properly all the changes will be there.

xml files

I'm actually really impressed with this media player it has all things it should and none of the stuff it shouldn't. Watch out Itunes.

Importing xml--not more than one at a time though. reselecting in the preferences [...] then copey and paste I tried to import my gigantic itunes library with the one click in the tree. and i beach balled for 10 minutes. Not sure what the best policy is here.. Sharing the librarey between traktor and and beatport? I like to keep my traktor library tiney so it runs smoother. ANy ideas..

Yes, you can share the collection between Sync and all Traktor products.

huh? you can direct traktor or sync to the paths you like... so you can share the collection and music folders between the two... no files moving needed...

dont get the point of your posting...?

my apologies again for being confusing.

I am going to start a new thread for this discussion in the traktor three forum this is less about beat port sync than it is about archinving traktor states and files in virutal crates ..and using beatport to manage the main library instead of traktor. ill be done with what im writing soon and start the thread then. Im getting it figured out but I guess I should let evryone know what I am clogging up the forum for. Thanks again.. shoot the horse.

I should have my copy of Traktor Scratch tomorrow.
From the TS forum I discovered I can use BSync to organise and create the stripes etc.

My collection is on my main pc, where I've installed Beatport Sync.

Traktor Scratch will be going on my netbook.

What I plan to do is only copy across selected playlists to the netbook.
Could you confirm how / where the playlist data and stripe data is stored please?
I'm presuming the BPMs are added as an ID3 tag value to the mp3s? (or are they just part of the Beatsync database?)

What I'm after is the easiest way of maintaining my collection on my main pc, but taking chunks of it out with me on my netbook as required.
A post above hints at the database being an xml file (like iTunes perhaps?) which I'm thinking if I copy that over, but not all the actual mp3s, they'll show as missing / offline on my netbook?

use the export playlist feature in T3/TS

see T3/TS manual - also worth a look in the backup chapter!

What I'm after is the easiest way of maintaining my collection on my main pc, but taking chunks of it out with me on my netbook as required.
export playlist feature - i'm doing this exactly like this with my desktop PC (preparation) and my laptop (gigging).

A post above hints at the database being an xml file (like iTunes perhaps?) which I'm thinking if I copy that over, but not all the actual mp3s, they'll show as missing / offline on my netbook?
if you would copy the collection.nml (it's not xml), then all files would show missing, because the paths of the copied files are not right, too. but you could use the relocate feature.

but anyways, the export playlist feature is what you're looking for, if i understand you correctly!

Thanks NG, export playlist works, aside from that Beatport Sync isn't saving the stripe/bpm data to my mp3s so I have to run the analysis again once it's on the Traktor Scratch pc.
