Oki Computer v1.1

By tim lamb
Oki Computer v1.1 by tim lamb
A synthesizer that specializes in retro computer sounds- reaktor4 update
*Updated for Reaktor 4.0.2.002*

Oki computer is a synthesizer that specializes in retro computer gurgles, burps, and splatters. But it's also quite talented at squelchy basslines and pattering rhythms.

The heart of oki computer is a sample oscillator that can smoothly morph between different oscillator shapes. Three multi-stage envelopes and an integrated note-triggered sequencer control the most important parameters. An 8-bit degrader and chorus add authenticity and depth.

Thank you Tim, I have been looking forward to this since R4 was released!
  2. Patrick Bateman (2003-06-27 18:45:57):
w00t! tim, you are the man!
  3. Cliff Douse (2003-06-28 11:21:49):
    Great fun! :-)
  4. Stefan Chowdhury (2003-06-28 12:56:20):
good stuff! but: when changing the instrument, it shows cpu overload and stops working...?
  5. Chris Gilkes (2003-06-28 13:26:17):
Whenever I try to load it I get an error message saying that it was made on a later version (3.38!!) and tells me to get a software update....

Any ideas as I'm running 4.02 and also have a R3 dongle plugged in to decode any V3 ensembles I load.

Running either standalone or VSTi gives the same error. The new Lifeforms ens does the same thing with the same error message.

    I'm using a P4 2.2gig, Intel 850 MB, 1gig RDRAM, Luna II, Win 2000, UAD-1.

    Thanks
  6. Chris Gilkes (2003-06-28 16:49:29):
Sorry for the above post - It seems that I didn't update Reaktor as I thought (I updated my laptop, not on my main system ;) )

Anyway, thanks Tim, its intruments like this that make Reaktor such a joy to use. BTW is there any internal mods for this V4 version or is it no different to the 'old' V3 version I converted myself?
  7. GG.G SakabeaT (2003-06-28 21:53:22):
Cpu overload make it unusuable here too...
Any idea?(maybe a looped feedback or something, not easy to find it with cpu disabled (all hints are at 0 when disabled)

    Athlon2000+,winXp sp1,512ddr,R4.02,Audigy plat.
  8. tim lamb (2003-06-28 22:05:42):
there are no feedback loops in this ensemble and it doesnt do this to me. ?
  9. Michael Murphy (2003-06-29 00:56:39):
I think to really appreciate this one you have to know that every Commodore 64 user referred to the TRS-80 as the Trash 80.
I love the sound and ease of tweaking of Oki. Low CPU.
Running well in Reaktor Session 1.02 on OS X.2.6 (which I can't say for all that many instruments!). Not getting spikes here. I like the way the parameters are laid out. I think this is my favorite instrument I've tried in Reaktor Session...

i'm sure it's not your .ens fault ,coz i have the same prob with some others .ens (indigestion,Whool[A],GhostEngine, lazyBoy,pulsar, all the organism serie & some others)
maybe something with audigy drivers (??)

    yeah audigy... yucky :)

is there asio for audigy? if so dont use asio and see if the same thing happens.
  14. Phil Durrant (2003-06-29 11:56:45):
this always was a reaktor classic, it still is. one of my all time favourites.
  15. Michael Murphy (2003-06-29 12:00:28):
woah... I liked it so much i posted it 3 times!!
sorry about that. wish i could delete a few.
  16. Stefan Chowdhury (2003-07-01 15:20:30):
still doesn´t work as standalone. shows cpu overload with a 2 ghz cpu. but works as plug in. loops sometimes have to be gated, otherwise the sound may continued although seq is stopped. but still, nice work, nice sounds, that fit into several arrangements.
  17. tim lamb (2003-07-01 19:54:22):
yeah i dont have any of those problems, if i did, you'd not see them.
  18. Derek Miller (2003-07-02 04:00:03):
will not load on G4 laptop in OSX
  19. GG.G SakabeaT (2003-07-02 15:31:34):
Yes,Tim,i tried the differents drivers for the audigy and it didn't change anything (btw i really need a new soundcard)....

    But,NOW IT WORKS,and i really can't say why ??!!??
all the others .ens that were not working in R4 (cpu overload) are working now!!! (still cant say why).
    i didn't change anything,and if i remember i download your .ens after the 4.02 was released,so it's very strange !!!

    Maybe some Voodoo things
but i dont care coz NOW IT WORX !!!!!

    Gof

    ps:i love this synth....
  20. Stewart Winter (2003-07-10 07:12:01):
Oh. My. God. I love this synth! I can hardly wait for some low-fi projects. Thanks!
  21. Robert Schaap (2003-08-02 06:46:48):
My God is right. Trash80 you are my hero... this is so much of what I've been looking for lately, short of "making" my own, a FANTASTIC plugin.
  22. Grigory Stulov (2003-09-27 23:23:23):
  23. tatu metsätähti (2003-10-01 12:52:03):
Very good synth indeed, i just love OKi!
One thing i'm missing though is midi-sync for "speed" in table edit...

    Cheers!
  24. Tim Panella (2003-11-25 15:20:57):
Awesome job! I love this synth. I also get the CPU overload message when switching patches (sometimes) on a P4 3.06GHz w/1GB RAM, but if I select System -> Run Audio, it continues to work fine.
  25. GG.G SakabeaT (2003-12-14 19:29:07):
it stops to work again as standalone(and so do the other .ens i named before)....really cant say why !!!i'm sure nothing has changed on my comp since the last time i use it without any problem...i dont get it,really....
  26. Arnold Pett (2004-02-19 16:08:30):
  27. alexander caldwell (2004-06-13 06:06:26):
Great synth, fast and original sound tool. Rob
  28. Maximilian Schäfer (2004-06-16 11:02:40):
    very funny, very clever!
  29. John Williston (2004-06-16 19:10:55):
I get the overload every time I switch patches. The only workaround I've found is to turn the instrument off before switching and then turn it on again. Perhaps this could be fixed? Otherwise, it's a nice little machine.
  30. Thorsten Puttenat (2004-06-29 14:44:45):
i am not a synth-fan at all .. but oki computer is something very very special to me, on the search for electronic sounds that doesnt instantly sound like so many others synths i know. wow! And the tweakability is fantastic .. thanks sir for this piece of software! :D
all the best .. 10 points
    putte
  31. Michael O'Shea (2004-07-19 04:50:42):

  35. Masahiko Ikeda (2004-09-22 08:33:40):
It is the the best for Chiptune creation.
  36. carl taylor (2004-10-09 03:48:33):
is there anyway to sync this to sequencer clock? That would be the icing on the cake :)
  37. kassian troyer (2004-10-20 12:40:02):
just downloaded this. i must admit that normally i cant stand retrosynthstuff - pseudo-c64-music and stuff - but with okicomputer i just couldn´t stop doing new sounds varying them going from a friendlyclumsybeat into a cold and icy soundscape and on and on.... GREAT POWERFULL STUFF! thanks for sharing!
  38. Hugo Litmanowitsch (2004-10-24 22:25:48):

Great fun. After some tweaking I had some sounds reminiscent of The Crystal Method....hmmm...imagine that. Good work, Tim.

    Seattle misses you, Tim.
  63. Jonathan Flugel (2007-04-15 09:31:56):
Out of everything I've downloaded on here, this is my FAVORITE!! I can now get rid of LSDJ and MIDINES, this has that gritty square wave sound I was looking for with the flexibility of reaktor. Thanks for making this!
  64. Christopher Soulos (2007-10-16 10:23:41):
i could go Laswell on yo ass! Love it!
  65. Mark Brandon (2009-01-13 00:32:14):
U.K. Future Music - Issue 209 (Jan 2009) cover DVD. Mason, of Exceeder fame, are filmed in their studio using Oki Computer for their bassline.

It's obviously a favourite judging by their smiles as they demonstrate it's morping abilities. I've just bought Reaktor 5 on the strength of that endorsement :D
  66. Robin Parmar (2012-08-17 20:30:27):
Have I ever mentioned how cool this instrument is? I used a few sounds from it to seed the sample map in my recently released = strata =. With credit of course.
