Reaktor 5 or lower
Instrument Sampler

DESCRIPTION

** PLEASE READ THESE NOTES BEFORE DOWNLOADING **

Reichatron 1.0 was too big to go in the UL. NI wanted to host if for me but we couldn't get around the limitation on download size. So the nice folks at Alonetone.com are hosting it for me. The link is in the README.txt file which is in the download. Note that the download ONLY contains the readme and the user guide. You'll have to download the ensemble using the URL in the readme. The ensemble download is 550MB.

** THANKS **

Reichatron is a sample playing instrument that grew out of my desire to experiment with phase-shifted looping (a la Steve Reichʼs early works ʻItʼs Gonna Rainʼ and ʻPiano Phaseʼ) and as an homage to Metaphysical Function which is, I think, one of the most interesting Reaktor ensembles.

Reichatron allows you to mix together the phase-shifted blending of two samples and then modulate that mixture using a block of six effects that can be independently controlled. Reichatron also offers stochastic control of the effects block and sample selection. You can take as much, or as little, control over how the sound evolves over time as you like.

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad people are having fun with Reichatron! @SvenK: Sorry I did not see your comment. It's been several months so you probably either solved your problem or moved on. If not drop me a line at self@mattmower.com

This is a great ensemble, thank you Matt. Just turned on to it from reading about the new bank that Simon Stockhausen's working on. I found serendipitously that one can insert different samples into the different sampler modules of each looper, adding more possibilities.

Swaroop: as is pointed out at the top of this page and in the accompanying README the ensemble is too big to go in the UL. There is a link in the README to where you can download it.

Hi Matt, the link provided in the download file returns to this page. have tried to search Alontone without luck. Is the link still working or have I missed out here or have i made a classic error that I am too tired to work out. Best wishes, Anthony.

Hi Stefan. The v1.3 on this page is because the UL stupidly updates the version number any time you edit the details on this page. The *instrument* is still v1.0 and the download link is valid. Matt

One of the things I would like to experiment with is "phase presets". That is to decouple the sample selection from the phase-shifting and slicing settings. Not sure how to do that since they all work around the sampler modules. I suppose I could move bits into new instruments that feed into each other. Sounds a bit tricky though.

Fantastic piece of work! I love MF but this one is a true successor of it. Loaded some mallet quintuplet loops in all four slots, started the phasing experiments and was delighted. 100 out of 10 from me...

Kudos for the much investment in making this ensemble easy and approachable to the user. the GUI alone is very self-explanatory, but then the user guide!!!! very appreciated.

As John Gibson says, the download URL is in the README.txt which is in the download. Don't worry that the download is called DUMMY.zip. On reflection that may not have been the best choice of name. I'll call it something less off-putting next time I do an upload.

Despite life having presented several major obstacles to my properly enjoying this for now, I can say upon cursory review this is all I would have hoped for and more. An excellent 'lab' to explore and expand on the original premise and special mention for the 'duo' format you incorporated ;-) I will return when I can put current negative circumstances aside and comment further but know I appreciate and am quite excited by your most creative construction. Paulo Branco, he has moved the actual link into a new 'dummy' read me, re-download for the direct download.

Hi Kimmo. Thanks for the feedback I'm glad you're enjoying playing with it. The presets turned out to be much harder to make than I'd imagined when I started (I'd originally planned to do a full bank, that didn't last long!) and I think could be better. In making them I learned a lot about what I will explore for the next version in terms of modulation, routing, and how the sample sequencer and effects controller should work. The size of the ensemble is a result of the way that Reaktor stores *all* samples in memory as 32-bit regardless of the original sample. We might hope that a future version will inherit some of Kontakts sample management smarts. If it gets to be too much you could make a new, smaller, sample map. Thanks also for the comment about morphing, I've never played with it so I'll have to take a look. Matt

Finally. Worth waiting. I was a bout to go get something to eat but now taking shoes off... At very first glance this look like very piece of art itself. I've had one snaphot (Zombie milkmen) running now for over one minute and it sounds very interesting. Its nicely between chaos and order. I've never had any .ens sized like this: 957 Mb on my HD. With Mac Pro Quad it has CPU on 24%. And, snapshot morphing works with morph timing! (of course they do change sample input so morphing isnt maybe what you dreamed but it works).

File moved or deleted. Why not two downloads: one for .ens and other for sound map files? NI server must have 127 mb download limit in PHP (or Apache).

yep - same problem here

and a final note, several more attempts with Safari stops EXACTLY same place...126.5 (which is probably the same 127 mb as neal johnson above, just calculated different by Mac/Safari).

btw, you can contact me through 'cgibson777 (at) aol (dot) com if you wind up considering other options ;-)

...and with Safari download stopped at 126.5 MB. :( My other options (download manager) can't seem to get it either. As I said, if UL can't handle it correctly I can host it (rapidshare) and you could put the link in the 'DUMMY FILE' so only registered users can get it. Just an idea as this doesn't seem to be working out here so far.

Above message from Firefox. Seriously Matt, I would be happy to host this on my rapidshare account if NI can't handle it?

Hi folks. Thanks for the counter-votes :) I'm not sure when it will be available, my guess is tomorrow sometime but it depends on how busy the NI folks doing this for me are. Thanks also for the comments on the user guide. I rather surprised myself with it because I'd only intended to write 2 pages :) I hope you'll all enjoy it when it's available. And, if not, that you'll let me know why! M.

I've added a ten star vote to have a better rating than the older one... By the way, I can't wait for the full link, it looks great ! Do you now when it will be avaible ? Maybe you should upload it on an other site...
Matt Mower
Just to be clear, I can't upload the ensemble as the zip weighs in at 0.5GB. NI have offered to do it for me and will swap in the real file for the dummy. It's sad that someone has chosen to give this 0.5 stars already but I guess that's the wonder of the rating mechanism around here.

Wow, manual has got me quite excited (given my 'handle' is Loopy C you can understand why) ;-) A while back Phil Durrant created an ensemble with same initial concept (Gonna Grain) but it looks like you have really gone all out (manual itself is really well done), can't wait for the full link.
