My application quits unexpectedly at startup or during plug-in validation (Mac)

On Mac OS X computers, certain applications may quit unexpectedly at startup or during plug-in validation.

The following applications are known to be affected by this:
  • KONTAKT 5.0.1 / 5.0.2
  • ABSYNTH 5.1.0
  • FM8 1.2.0
  • MASCHINE 1.7.2
This will only happen in 32 bit mode (standalone or plug-in) - 64 bit versions are not affected.

This behavior is likely to be caused by a preference file of an older Native Instruments product on your computer which contains an invalid serial number.

In order to resolve this, you'll have to fix the serial entry via SERVICE CENTER or remove the conflicting preference file as described below.

1. Fixing the serial number
  1. Start SERVICE CENTER and go to the Overview tab.
  2. You should see an older product (e. g. BATTERY) listed here (if no older product is listed, proceed with chapter 2.).
  3. Click on Show Details in the line of the older product.
  4. Check the serial number: It should contain 13 digits (some B4 serials contain 14 digits). Correct the serial number if necessary. Press OK to confirm the change.
  5. Close SERVICE CENTER.
Your application should now be able to start correctly.

If no older product is listed in SERVICE CENTER, delete the preference file manually as described below.

2. Deleting the preference file
  1. Go to the Finder and open the following directory: Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
  2. Search for  preference files of older products,  for example "Battery.plist", "B4.plist", "FM7.plist", "Absynth.plist" etc.).
  3. Remove the preference file in question (your administrator authorization may be required for this).
Note: Preferences of older NI products are  named 'ProductName.plist' (without "com.native-instruments." in the beginning).

Your application should now be able to start correctly.
