Does the KONTAKT 3 library completely include the KONTAKT 2 library?
Much of the KONTAKT 3 Library is new, with many patches that do not exist in the KONTAKT 2 Library.
However, the Kontakt 2 Library/01 - VSL Kontakt Orchestra/Samples (7.5 GB) is included in the KONTAKT 3 Library, but here as well, the patches have been optimized in KONTAKT 3. That means, in case you are still using KONTAKT 2 with its library in old projects, you should keep the KONTAKT 2 VSL Library, since KONTAKT 2 can not read the VSL patches from KONTAKT 3. If you do not use KONTAKT 2 anymore, you can delete this part from your hard drive.
Furthermore, there are single patches/folders that are included in the KONTAKT 3 library:
- Kontakt 2 Library/02 - KSP Instruments/01 - Elektrik
Guitar/Elektrik Guitar Samples (0.7 GB)
- Kontakt 2 Library/02 - KSP Instruments/02 - Akkord Guitar/Akkord Guitar Samples (1.4 GB)
- Kontakt 2 Library/03 - Grand Pianos/02 August Foerster/Samples (1.4 GB)
That makes a total of ca.11 GB out of 33 GB from the KONTAKT 3 library that has been taken from the KONTAKT 2 library.
The following Instruments/Folders from the KONTAKT 2 library are not included in the KONTAKT 3 library:
06 - Acoustic Drums
07 - Electronic Drums
08 - Percussion
09 - Guitars
10 - Basses
11 - Synthesizers
12 - Loops
13 - Surround
It makes sense to keep at least these Instruments from the KONTAKT 2 library on the hard drive, as patches can be loaded into KONTAKT 3.
Note, KONTAKT 2 will not be able to load KONTAKT 3 patches.
