During installation you get a 'fatal error: x:\\xxxx.pkg\Contents\Archive.pax.gz doesn't exists!' message

We found out that this error can be caused by packet writing software like 'Sonic Solutions DLA' or 'Roxio DLA' (DLA = Drive Letter Access).

You can check if your system has DLA installed by right-clicking on your DVD drive and selecting Properties from the context menu.
If there's a tab called DLA, then you have installed DLA and you have to uncheck the box that says enable DLA on your drives.

DLA disabling

If you start the installation again afterwards it should finish without errors. After successful installation you may enable DLA again.

If your CD drive properties do not have a DLA tab, then use the following steps to turn off DLA:
  • Determine the drive letter of your CD drive. For this example it is E:
  • Click on the "Start menu" button
  • Click on the "Run..." button
  • Type in "CMD" and press "Enter"
  • In the command window, type in: "DLA.EXE disable E:"
  • You will see a message saying that DLA is disabled.
At this point you should restart the installation from your install disk.

When you are done installing, you can turn back on DLA using the same steps, except that in the command window, type in: "DLA.EXE enable E:".
