I don't have enough disk space for both the KOMPLETE 7 and KOMPLETE 8 libraries. Do I have to keep all of them installed in order to load old projects?

In the interests of saving disk space, the most efficient way is to allow the KOMPLETE 8 libraries to install over any previously installed versions and upgrade them in place. This way, you will only have one copy of all the content installed without unnecessary duplication. (See the Related Articles below for more on how to do this.)

In the case of the Kontakt Library in particular (by far the largest of the KOMPLETE libraries), if you still need to open old projects that use samples from the Kontakt 4 Library or earlier versions, it is recommended to leave these older versions installed. However, if you really need to save disk space, it is still possible to safely delete the Kontakt 4 Library and load the samples from the Kontakt 5 library content instead (now renamed to ‘Kontakt Factory Library’).

Don’t worry, any instruments you may have saved within your old host sequencer projects will still load if you do this. Here’s how you can open them:

After you have deleted the Kontakt 4 Library and installed KOMPLETE 8, open your project file containing Kontakt 4 library instruments and a Samples Missing dialog box will appear.

In this window, please make sure that the 'Check for Alternate file types' option is checked. (If this box is not checked, the samples will not be found.)

Click the Browse for Folder button.

Point the browser to the new ‘Kontakt Factory Library’ folder and click OK. (To save time, you can also browse for the correct sub-folder within the Samples folder of the Kontakt Factory Library.)

After all the samples have been found, resave your sequencer project. Then when you open it the next time, everything should open without difficulties.
