DESCRIPTION

A mash-up of a legendary synth series of the 80's with some new additions.



v1.0.1
- fixed the hold switch (worked inverted)
- fixed the snap value of the switches to make the snapshot randomize function work correctly

v1.1.0
- changed the amp design (set the snapshot volume at the VCA, the Master Volume isn't stored with snaps anymore - this allows to reduce the amount of distortion inside the vca and have a nice output gain of the synth as well but be careful with the master volume to prevent clipping)
- added some more classic sounds

v1.2.2
final cosmetics
some last improvements in sound and gui, now i'm happy with this baby

v1.3.0
- fixed chord memory (recorder didn't work for polyphonic input)
- fixed some broken display values
- some small cpu improvments

v1.5.0
- changed osc design for better quality
- x-mod is now unipolar
- some small improvments in sound characteristics
NOTE: this update has some major changes that may impact sounds made with previous versions

There's something weird going on with mono mode + legato? an example, with init patch, put in mono mode, and play the sequence: F (keep it holding), E and unpress E - the F doesn't sound again, you get only the sound of F - E.

Well, basically you can run it at any rate you want but this synth, especially the filter has some nonlinearities that may cause some aliasing. That's why i recommend to run it with 88.2/96 kHz. I'm currently working on further cpu optimizations, may be i'm able to add oversampling for the filter later on as well.

In 1.5.2 the samplerate is 44.1k, in the previous versions it has 88.k. Is this a mistake or now it's ok to work in 44.1k?

You can use the chord mem and the arp for other synths too, that's why. You can disable the midi out in the instrument properties if you don't need it.

Are you aware that the ensemble sends out midi out data , becaue of the note/gate module ? I was really scratching my head why my nord modular was triggered .

Had a look at the structure and it looks quite inefficient. I guess that the dc offset i there by accident and it actually should be a unipolar signal.

On the chro jup version , the carrier's pitch increases ( again mod is square ) even when mod square is in negative phase BUt it only increases a few semitones ( mod = neg phase ) , when mod square is in pos. phase , the carrier increases a couple of octaves So yeah , it isn't exact either

@ trial n error I can only compare with the roland cloud versions as I don't have real jup 8 :) On the cloud version when modulating with a square at full crosmodd , the carrier highest tone ( positive cycle of square mod. osc ) increases with a couple of octaves , can't tell excactly must be in the range of 6 octaves The negative phase only drops the carrier with a few semitones .

@gentleclockdivider i've already thought about increasing the xmod range from 8 to 10 octaves but dropped it to let users use sounds they made with previous versions. Inverting the saw is not a big deal but it just makes only a differents if you set vco2 to lfo mode. It doesn't matter in audio range. I had a quick look at the ChroJupiter but i'm kinda confused. It seems to have a huge dc offset in the xmod path. If i modulate with a slow pulse wave i would expect to get two different tones, one lower and one higher than the carriers base frequency but both tones are higher than it. It doesn't sound very musical at all to me too. Will have a look at the structure later on to check whats going on there. Are you sure that this is the way the jupiter 6/8 works? Can anyone confirm this strange behaviour?

And the saw waves should be upward rising , also crucial for the crossmod Have a look at jasper broeks jup 8 in the user library , it's almost identical to the roland cloud version

Yeah, I did some spying on the inner workings, and saw there’s a lot of custom core stuff going on. Props for that! About the sound and interface, I love the feeling of ”going back to the basics”, and then suddenly realizing how good those ”basics” can actually be. This synth does exactly that! :)

Thx everyone for your nice comments! @Markus: It's in fact a basic synth but that's what all the magic is about. It's very hands-on and everyone who knows the basics of a subtractive synth is able to make own sounds on the fly. I've build this completely in core using a zdf filter as well what might use some cpu but really makes this thing shine in terms of sound quality. @Willie: unfortunately you don't get notifications when someone comments your uploads. I've already made something very similar but i think i can make this a step further. Will definitely work on this because i love sequencers and very dislike painting in piano-rolls.

Your ensembles are terrific, this one is a standout. Not sure if you saw my comments on your Sirius 8, but would love to have an ens or block that has your step sequencer function from the ASSIGN section of Sirius.

Don't know what it is exactly about this synth, on paper it's pretty basic (nothing wrong with that, of course), but the sounds immediately got me hooked. And even without any reverb or delay. Still hard to believe Reaktor users get to enjoy gems like this. Great work, need to get back to it right now!
