TRAKTOR KONTROL D2 was designed to easily integrate into standard club booths as a dual-controller setup. An ideal setup would consist of two D2s and a professional audio interface connected to your favorite DJ mixer. This portable setup provides total control of four software decks, plus the unique power splitter cable and the USB hub on the rear panel make setting up quick and simple. Here you can see this setup with the added simplicity of using TRAKTOR KONTORL Z2 – a pro DJ mixer with a built-in audio interface.
Though you can DJ controlling up to four TRAKTOR software decks using one D2, two D2 units are required to complete a setup that delivers simultaneous control of two decks – such as the one outlined above.
Using one D2 can be useful in combination with other controllers like the F1 for example. With one D2, you can toggle between TRAKTOR decks by using the secondary functions. Learn more about deck switching with the D2 in this Knowledge Base article.
The maximum amount of D2 units used at once is two. Two D2s already provide access to all four of TRAKTOR’s software decks.
All deck flavors can be controlled using TRAKTOR KONTROL D2. Track Decks, Remix Decks, and Stem Decks* are all natively supported.

*The Stems format will launch in summer 2015.
Stems is a new format for music. A Stem file is an open, multi-channel audio file that contains a track split into four musical elements –bass, drums, vocals, and melody for example.
The Stems format will launch in summer 2015. You can find out more about the Stem format here.
The default D2 mapping is hardcoded and currently cannot be altered. You can however MIDI-assign the Performance faders and knobs for use with other applications.
Currently there isn’t a dedicated carry case for the D2, but a custom-designed case will be available from the NI Online Shop later on in summer 2015.
The D2 does not feature an integrated soundcard. You can, however, use it with your preferred standalone audio interface, a mixer with an integrated audio interface, or CDJs with a built-in audio interface.
Because the innovative features found on TRAKTOR KONTROL D2 demand more power than an average hardware controller, it can’t be used without a power supply unit.
The D2 was designed for advanced deck control of TRAKTOR PRO 2 and does not support TRAKTOR DJ for iPhone and iPad. TRAKTOR DJ currently supports the TRAKTOR KONTROL Z1, TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 MK2, and TRAKTOR KONTROL S4 MK2 controllers.
Though the D2 was designed to work in pairs along with a club mixer, there are many ways to use just one D2 with other controllers. Adding an F1 to a D2 setup for example, means you don’t have to switch between decks on the D2 – allowing you to play Remix Decks, Stem Decks, and loops simultaneously.
The USB ports on the D2’s back panel work just like any standard powered USB hub although, connecting audio interfaces or other high-bandwidth devices to the D2 ports is not advised. It is recommended to use the USB hub only with TRAKTOR controllers or other MIDI-enabled hardware to ensure optimal performance.
