DESCRIPTION

Don't know how I missed this amazingly deep tool from the redoubtable Michael O'Hagan, but so glad I eventually found it; thanks Michael! In honor of the event, I whipped up a new bank of microscopically tweaked variations on a mere three of his supplied snaps (he included EIGHT banks of great examples, which hardly scratches the surface, but perfectly exemplifies how generous the package, and the maker, is.) There's a very clear manual, and even a YouTube demo linked to in the UL page for Aries, but that's of a later version that AFAIK was never available in the UL, and whose web link is apparently dead. Hopefully that'll get fixed, but the UL ver.1 which these snaps were made with, is plenty marvelous:

@David your point is well taken. I always assume that more (and more complicated) is better, and then frequently I just sit in front of the thing in paralyzed wonder. (As I do with Hyro - don't get me wrong, I greatly admire it, and the GUI, for one thing, completely acknowledges that it's a SOFTWARE synth, which is great.) Similarly Don Garbutt's Spektrum Synth http://www.dongarbutt.com/spektrumsynth.html might be one of the most complex Reaktor ensembles ever, and... I just don't know what to do with it. You remind me that sometimes something simpler opens more doors. Thx!

Hyro's always been fascinating, but until now a bit overwhelming, too, so I was excited to see the seeds for it in the much more approachable but still epic Aries (and just now seeing how many others in Michael's collection are very closely related—don't miss Overkill FM!—as well as following up the sources he credits, like the rather intriguing Twiddle…). These all feel like essential prerequisites to Hyro, to me anyway. Who knows which I'll eventually feel the most friendly towards; probably whatever I'm currently exploring:)

Very admirable work BTW David. I always appreciate it when someone explores and shares what a UL creation can do.
