DESCRIPTION

***** Ver 1.6 - 1.3 Snapshots won't work! *****

A synth for grim, foreboding unpleasantries and toxic shock fx. Meant as a go-to tool for thriller/horror/suspense soundtracks. By accident also does some polite stuff.
Best I could find in the factory library was Aeolotonium but I needed a little more control so here we are...

Inspired by and partially based on Aeolotonium. Credits to Adam Hanley for the noise-to-FM , basic filter sections, post filter noise and bleed.

Base frequency shifter by Sean Costello. Modulation routing, ctrls and stereofication by Henning Malm

Idea + Osc, LFO, Envelope, Stereo, Freq Shift, OD, Chorus implementations etc. by Henning Malm /OreKore 2018.

Snapshots by Henning Malm /OreKore 2018

Graphic Design by Henning Malm /OreKore 2018

Package includes Sync Spacedelay - yer ole faithful Dual Sync Delay and Microspace wrapped in the OreKore skin

Update 1.6.1 - Nov 3 2018
- Added Paule's snapshot bank "ingredients indica"
- Display for OP transpose

Update 1.6 - Nov. 3 2018
***** Old Snapshots won't work! *****
- Complete reconstruction of the dirt section. Implementing a couple of Luca Capozzi's diode emulators.
- LFO section rebuild
- Master Compression added
- Portamento added
- Oscillators now a mix of Core and Primary because.. CPU
- Pitchbend range selector added
- Complete GUI rebuild
- Old snapshot bank sort of restored, Added a messy new bank
- stuff I forgot..

Update 1.3 (July 05 2018)
- Paule made a really nice set of snapshots. Included here.

Update 1.2 (May 29 2018)
- Major GUI brush-up, Credits to Paule for nudging me into making my own knobs
- A few snap adjustments

Update 1.1.1
- Brushed off some snaps, added a few more. Full bank now.

Update 1.1
- New GUI, to match the rest of the toxic series
- New Chorus, 1 button added but knobs retain original IDs. However, this is a much beefier chorus and snapshots have been modified accordingly. If you've made your own snaps you may need to adjust Chorus settings.
- 1-unit delay added to sync function. Initially this worked fine without it, but at some point Reaktor decided to auto-add a delay, which rendered the sync function dead. If this happened to any of you in version 1.0, this should fix it.
- On Request, Komplete Kontrol support, should work for Maschine too.
- Snapshots reorganized and renamed for better Komplete integration. Oh, and there's a few new snapshots too... about a 100 in total.
Snapshot Legend:
[Pd] Pads
[Scp] soundscapes
[Pls] Pulsating
[Txc] Toxic, aka unpleasant, atonal, distorted...foreboding, grim
[Sps] Suspense.... tada
[Ba] Bass
[Ld] Leads
[EP] Electric Pianos (ish)
[Prc] Percussive
[SFX] Sound Effects

That's it, I think... no automation mapping yet. I'm open to suggestions.
Enjoy

Many thanks to the builders and sound designers here. The user library is a constant delight. I used your ensemble here (https://soundcloud.com/lenblenb/delta3) and I am very grateful for the hours of work you put into it.

Can't see a download button for any of your synths now? Also, just a request. A simple default or init patch would be nice. The presets are great but having to go back and reset everything is a pain.

Whats news in a current version or this is just thread up?

There's plenty of conspiracy theories to be found between the lines. I'll only advocate that people stay informed, read some history books and use common sense. :)

The last news I read is that they don't know who produced the poison. Read between the lines, please!

They don't really do military research there anymore. I'm not going to theorize about the background on the current story, but I do advice anyone to always read any news story in a context of global politics. Stay informed.. :) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porton_Down

In the near of Porton Down again people registered an unknown substance and end up in a hospital like some month before. Just read in the news.

Thanks, David. I'm thrilled you like it... it's always nice when one can find find versatility in an instrument when tweaking it a bit, so I'm happy to hear that's your experience

Another knockout, OreKore! I'm loving the results of tweaking the great set of Snapshots. I think it's great for sinister, but it covers a whole lot of other territory as well. Awesome!

Henning, you can set the first object to 30-50% alpha. So the panel looks through the knob background.

Oh wow, Paule - I haven't updated that page in ages... but thanks for the compliment. There's more recent stuff at https://malm.bandcamp.com/ and https://soundcloud.com/orekore Magic Battery... it's basically a percussion setup compiled from homemade thingies, some odd North African and Asian instruments picked up on journeys, and a lot of found objects, like old sinks, industrial springs and metal rods etc. Played with soft mallets, bows, metal files etc... any approach that yields unexpected sounds. The name was inspired by Bill Bruford referring to his drumkit in King Crimson as a Battery, ours was magic because Wonderbird was playing it. Loony Wonderbird has his own page here: https://soundcloud.com/user-459174505 Our past collaboration have a page here: https://e412.bandcamp.com/

Thanks Nick! There's quite a few hints to a bit of everything in the snap names, glad you're noticing! Even a few quotes from the opening of Diamond Dogs, for those who are old enough to remember ;)

Paule - It certainly did get more spatial... a little too much too, adjusted that and in the process discovered a few snaps that didn't have the chorus adjustment - fixed that. Thanks for your input, your attention to detail is very helpful!

This is exciting stuff! Hinting at POTY in your presets is also very cool. Only had it here for 5 minutes and I love it. Even like the visual joke in B view.

Ouih - the toxic goes more spatial - thanks Henning.

Zdenek, Philippe, glad you like it, thanks! Update is in the works, but there's issues with the "edit post" function on the server, so waiting for that to be addressed by the NI folks

Great. I've had several hours of fun. And I will have many, many more. Great synth and great patches. Integration to Komplete Kontrol would be great! Thanks very much!

Daniel, I looked into it (I'm not a Maschine user). I got it running from inside Komplete Kontrol, so it should be possible to get a similar result in Maschine. I'll have to make a few changes to the snapshot order and create icons to embed in the file and then it should show up nicely in the Maschine display. I'll post an update in 8-10 days (currently working on another synth) cheers

Daniel, I guess you can if you put a little effort into it. Beyond the Cutoff being assigned to the Modwheel, I've done no controller mapping. Also, it's not NKS ready, so I don't think it'll show up in your Maschine browser. It doesn't play within Komplete Kontrol. That said, if you have Reaktor, you can control it with any midi controller, using the midi learn function.

curious- can I control this via the Maschine MK3 hardware?

Splendid. Very cool name, too. "Porton Down" has a bit of Kraftwerk "Radioactivity" ring to it; foreboding and grim.

Thanks Jim. Thanks Paule. Forgot to mention in the description that this thing really comes alive when using the Mod Wheel. Also, it's quite happy with the randomize button. Porton Down is a science park in the UK that once experimented with chemical and biological weapons. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porton_Down
