DESCRIPTION

*Updated to add a small (half-size) version for those of you who like small things*

A set of meters to take a careful look at your mix before going platinum.

Includes 2X oversampled RMS and peak meters (oversampling is needed to get a more accurate measure of the peaks in the signal - the digital sample values can be lower than the value that comes out of the D/A). Accurate vU meters with that old time feel are in there too. And to top it all off, a phase scope with correlation meter is provided to make sure your mix doesn't disappear when mixed to mono (for your AM radio hits!).

Thanks, i have maybe too much the habit to watch the RMS displays in Sound Forge, they have by default an integration time of 300 ms which is slower than yours. I kinda like when the RMS meters are smooth and slow. I added myself a clip hold which i find absolutely essential when tracking for the eventual clip in the digital domain. Thanks again this rocks !

very cool - thanks!

Also, I updated it with a sine wave test signal generator (and tweaked the scale markings a little bit). Please note that the test signal level pot sets the peak levels. RMS levels will be 3dB less for the sine wave.

Hi Michel, I used a 50% time constant of 300% msec for the VU meters. This is actually a bit slow, the spec for vU meters usually requires a 90% response in 300msec. The peak meters actually have a fast rise time. Their fall time is set to 100msec which is faster than most peak program meters (which can have a fall time of 2 seconds). I didn't add your clip hold feature, but I did lengthen the hold time somewhat.

I actually got curious if the small version could be somehow be shaper. Sure, it can be done. I took a screen grab of meter and did some photoshop (-all text has to be re-written with font that can be read with pixel size 6) and it looks good BUT since I dont have the original file, my meter jumps few pixels. In a scale of this it means a lot. Thats why ---> test area.

James, Amazing. I wouldn't have the slightest idea how to go about making something like this. I love that there are two sizes-on for a crowded screen and the "luxury" version for when I have not some uch on the screen, like mixing or mastering some 2-track stuff.

Also a useful feature would be that the clip once a clip occur stay lit until you click on it. Thanks for this useful toy.

Hi James, Shouldn't the RMS meter be a little smoother than the peak meter ? What integration time did you use ?

Hi Kimmo, I added a small version to the download. It looks crappy, but it is small!

Really nice and useful but size is 914x329 which is large. I would like it better sized to height 100-200.
