sampler/sequencer combo geared for live performance
boxStep is a QWERTY/MIDI controlled version of the ensemble i use with my monome 40h controller for live performance. it a nutshell, it is a simple stepsequencer (no velocity!) controlling a groove-box-styled sampler, which has alot of sound-mangling features, like filtering, looping, reversing, individual-voice graindelay, etc.
using the QWERTY keys shown on the box, or MIDI notes 48+, you can change the playback "scenes" of both the sampler and the sequencer independantly. the scenes are similar to that used y the R4 ensemble go-box. yes, i am revolting against snapshots. i like tables better! maybe i was dropped on my head as a child! i dont know, but thats how i like it, much faster and more fun for live performance as well.
most controls are labelled. the main thing to remember, is that samples should start mapping at key 0, and that the highest key a sample is mapped to should be set as the value of the numeric control, for proper use of the sample select control. also, for the loop/reverse controls to work the samples loaded must have looping turned on.
