SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER 2.1

I've decided to make a smaller version without all the confusing extras. The new one is now called SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER 2.x. The old one is called SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER EXPERIMENTAL and I will not update or support it in the future. There are still some extras on the cut down version like the Pitch input and the Knob polarity switches. There is also a gate output similar to the OSC output. The OSC output is a square wave with a pulse width of 90%. The gate output is a trigger signal. The 'On' and 'Off' inputs allow you to control the Trigger Oscillator with an external Gate/Trigger, LFO, Oscillator, etc. The 'Shift' input is similar to a gate input. You can also control the shift from one stage to another stage with an external signal like a LFO, Oscillator, Clock, etc. The 'Shift' input can be used in conjunction with the internal oscillator for unusual timing effects.

The SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER 2.1 is functionally very similar to the famous analog 960 sequencer and any documentation of this sequencer will apply!

I'm very proud to release the second version of SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER. The first version was the second reaktor block I've ever made and it had many problems and dysfunctions. The new one should be rock solid. The most important new feature is the correct working variable 'SKIP' function. It is possible to 'emulate' the classic behaviours (Normal, Skip, Stop) and go a step forward with custom directions. The new 'SET' and 'SHIFT' buttons in combination with 8 Gate Inputs and Outputs allows many creative ways of patching. Beside that there are more little and bigger improvements. Thank you Michael Hetrick for your 'Voltage Storage' block, that gave me the inspiration to enhance the features of SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER.

The SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER is an 8 stage, 3 row sequencer with an internal oscillator. Each row can control any voltage-controlled module such as an oscillator or filter, etc.

Each stage has 3 knobs which determine the voltage at the 3 row outputs (A, B, C). The row outputs can be scaled using the '/' switches (/1, /2, /4).

The internal oscillator has 6 ranges and a variable control. A lamp indicates when the oscillator is on. Both manual buttons and Gates can turn the oscillator On/Off. An external shift input and manual shift button provide additional control of stage activation.

Every knob and button has informations about its functions in the 'Info' panel.


Note (only for SEQENTIAL CONTROLLER EXPERIMENTAL): When 'SKIP' (Panel B) is on, the knobs 'Direction', 'Steps' and 'Offset' are turned off. The direction, amount of steps, the end and the beginning of the sequence can be adjusted with the 'Skip' switches.

By the way....it's a minor issue, but in Colugo's Instrument Browser this Block doesn't have a text description below it, while your newest Block the Sequential Switch displays perfectly.

Markus Müller-Faßbender: Not a brief manual, but every parameter is explained in the 'Info' panel. CHARLES GRAEF: The bug your mentioned is fixed in version 2. Just turn the trigger Oscillator 'off' and you can hear the result of the tuning instantly.

Beautiful Moog sequencer. However ... I'm confused by the fact that when I use a keyboard to gate the sequencer, so that I can tune each step, the pitch input of the oscillator is not affected by the turning of the knob. Instead I can only find out what pitch I tuned to by waiting for that step to come around again. Obviously this is totally different from how an analog sequencer would behave. It's as if the output of the step were being sampled and held at whatever level the knob were tuned to at the first millisecond it was gated, rather than being variable. Essentially the knob on the sequencer should be in full variable control of the pitch of the oscillator until the sequence moves to the next gate. Is this fixable? Really not very usable for anything pitched as long as this problem persists.

Petty, depends on the drum machine. You can use the gate output of sequential controller for reaktor drum machines. Hardware and other software drum machines can be sync by ear or you use the gate input of the sequential controller and sync it with the INT-Clock block to the song tempo.

Thanks for all the kind words! The SEQUENTIAL CONTROLLER is inspired by the well known 960 sequencer module. I highly recommend youtube videos of the 960 to understand the usability of this sequenzer. Maybe I will add an example ensample in the future.

Hallo Marius! How do you apply modulation to your controller? I see the modulation target light but I don't see what parameter can be patched. Can you also provide some kind of display for the pitch value of the knobs? I can't really see what value is happening when I turn them. Good experiment - needs some work, but it's fun!

This looks great! In terms of the 1 star - it is possible the voter did not understand how to use it. As there are no snaps, all the 'pitch' knobs are fully anti-clockwise, therefore if you just connect it to a synth without changing the knobs, you just get clicks. Maybe some included Snashots would be a good idea and even better a 'Blocks' Ensemble with a working example. Having said that, I am giving this 5 stars.
