Experimental sequencer based on Langton's Ant.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langton's_ant

The buttons at the top control the number of cells each ant will hop over each frame.
The buttons at the bottom control the number of frames an ant will skip when it lands on each color.

See the mouse-over info hints for more documentation.

Big thanks to brice beasley whose UI design I stole, and Jim Hurley for the ideas!

Many thanks to the builders and sound designers here. The user library is a constant delight. I used your ensemble here (https://soundcloud.com/lenblenb/delta3) and I am very grateful for the hours of work you put into it.

Added an example ensemble to the zip. Still not sure what to do with it. The outputs are very generic and might require a bit of building to make them useful. In the example I created a "dup gate" cell which creates gate-on events when the ant column (oscillator pitch) changes.

Although interesting, I find it ultimately lacking because it is step oriented. Options to allow skips over more than a single note might be more interesting for musical ideas.

This works so well and elicits such great results. Thank you!

Excited to see a new cellular automation implementation. I can imagine many uses for such a thing. Noise generator / sequencer / modulator. Mmmm... Looking forward to seeing this progress.

Newscool type arrangement would be amazing! Or gamelan type instrument as well. Can you briefly say how to hook this up to an ensemble? I know its just a test though...
