DESCRIPTION

8 voice polyphonic, full stereo signal path, stereo LFOs etc. Some simple FM, some simple adding, but most of all it’s about the VA filters. This synth does a bit of everything, but colors it all brown and grey. Very tube’ish overall sound quality, kinda 70’s. Big emphasis on spatial modulation and movement.

Huge credits to ColB for the MS filters and ColB’s Comp; Vadim Zavalishin for the Sallen Key and stuff. Credits to Benjamin Poddig for the trivial OSCs, Trial’n’Error for his Core Library additions.

Thanks, Jerome. The bonus pics are from the actual Unit 4, shortly after the meltdown. I tried as best I could to model the knobs from these, obviously not to scale.

@ Paule: I've been too busy to lately. I tried a handful of snapshots but all I got was noise. Not sure if that was the intention?

@jace: The smallest knobs in this GUI are larger than NI Factory BIG knobs. You screen size is not really relevant, it's the resolution that counts. I don't know what resolution Retina refers to, but in any case, as implied above, my reference is NI factory standards and by those, the GUIs I produce are fairly standard.

You have fantastic GUI design elements and textures. I just wish everything was at least 100% larger. I'm on a non-retina 13" Macbook Pro and using glasses, sitting about 2 feet away and it's hard to look at. So many things still being built tiny these days... Neat sounds. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks for all the nice words. About the demos... they're really just unfinished sketches. It's the synth that makes them shine I think. The filters add a lot of delicious harmonics that makes it really easy to fit it in the mix. So again, credits to Vadim and ColB. @ michael o'hagan: As per above, currently these demos only exist here and on my hard drive. I'll upload them to soundcloud and bandcamp when they're complete. :)

@OreKore : no I love how this patch works. I finally catched that it was voice related, but originally I was pleasantly surprised when it came here and there, almost unpredictably. Keep it like this.

Thanks, Donald! @ Philippe: I used factory lib Voice Mode macro, as is. It does have issues with poly-to-mono conversion, only sending a signal every 8th note. As I understand it's a general Reaktor problem. I had to do a few workarounds to make the envelopes receive G on every note and got kinda fed up with it. I know what you mean about the patch, in ARP-UNI you'll get all the notes, but sounds very different. I may try to find a fix in an update, but it would probably impact a few snapshots. Anyway, I'll pass the blame to NI for this one ;)

@Orekore : love this patch Close Watch Plus, with this subtle arp triggered with # of voices rotated. Seems to be related to Operator ARP-MONO mode ? But why 1 note out of 8 ? If you pass here again, some words will be welcome :-)

My side, Philippe. I wanted to be able to call Passpong snaps from within Unit4, to make randomizing a little more fun. Unfortunately the snapshot module placed in Passpong locks buttons and switches when it calls a snapshot. If you go just one level deep and disconnect either "snp" or "recl" wires, you'll have full control of passpong, but if you want retain snapshot calling from with Unit4 you should reconnect the wire after editing. Not practical, I know. Intention was to have a full bank of presets in PassPong, so that no one had to worry about that. If anyone fills up that snapshot bank I'll be happy to implement it.

Nice work and demo tracks. BTW, in some presets (Hydrogen Cooled, 65/3000 and others), Passpong seem not to react as in others : the On/Off do not work, the Pong switch turns gated..Your side or my side ? :-)
