Back in the good old hardware days, I was always annoyed by the fact that analog synths almost universally let all the different VCOs utilize identical VCFs and VCAs. The Bass Boss, designed for fat synth bass sounds, assigns separate VCF-VCA-paths for each VCO. (Plus panning, and chorus for the "middle" VCO.) This makes it possible, for instance, to make the synth bass short and brutal at the stereo edges while soft and warm in the middle, or vice versa. A simple ensemble indeed, but it can be quite powerful.
