The ewqlso kompakt engine doesn't have anything to do with a new Kontakt version (I don't think). They have said that version 1.3 of Kontakt will be here by August, but with the NI track record i'm guessing early 2004.

There's a statement on one of the EastWest web pages
announcing the EWQLSO library which states that the
libraries will be compatible with Kontakt 1.3 (and,
by implication, that they won't be compatible with
Kontakt 1.1/1.2), which leads me to believe that the
1.3 engine and the EW/ZG "embedded" engine are to be
the same, though of course there will be more to a
Kontakt 1.3 release than just the sample playback engine.

Yeah in a long time when 1.3 shows up people will be able to load ewqlso into it and make lite versions of the library so you don't need a gazillion computers to run it.

If this is true I`m not going to sell my
copy of Kontakt . Im going to trash it !!
1.3 isn`t going to support MAS , so NI definitly should
    release 1.2.1 !

God, lets hope it arrives this week, so this thread can end!
I now hold out no hope at all of NI ever telling us anything.
The first thing we'll know about the 1.2.1 release is when it's uploaded to the NI website :-(

I keep asking myself, why have NI kept us in the dark for so long? I can only think of three reasons...

    a) The are in a 'mood' with the customers because they got flamed for delivering the last release 3-4 months late. When it arrived it didn't work properly. They don't want to repeat that experience (and would rather keep people in the dark instead).
    b) They don't have a clue when the release will actually happen and therefore can't tell us something they don't know.
    c) They don't give a damn about their customers or their questions.

I am pretty p1ssed off with the way they have totally ignored repeated request for information over the last few months, especially when they make it available elsewhere.

    Sort it out NI!

    Don`t get yourself in a hubbub..bub..

I`m pretty sure a moderator(Martin Jann)stated last week that the the 1.2.1 update is done and working well, only now there testing it out alot to make sure that they dont have to do any final tweeking if it is glitchy.I know that they had to get the DFD working for the QLSO konpakt engine,so it will probably be fine.Everyone ,dont hold your breath ,but hold on to your kishka`s and keep writing until the update comes and that way it`ll be just a like a bonus not a nesessity. At this point whining won`t help...All the best, Rich

    rich,

if they are still testing then there is the possibility for more development (as a result of the tests failing).
I hope not but I'll be happier once Ni tell us a date.

    cheers
    Michael

p.s. the moderators afaik are not NI employees...

    Re: The answers too simple....

Unfortunatelty the view from here is not great :(

They can tell us what their current planned date for release is and keep us updated. I think that's more simple than keeping customers in the dark! Basic customer service in fact.

    cheers

    Arguing in circles

I`m not sure what the point of a release date when it may keep changing. If they told us and exact date and then pulled the rug out from under us and changed it(cause the programs still buggy) U`d be just as frustrated!!I think its better they "keep us in the dark", dont promise anything and then lay it on us when its done.Anyways, since your not getting my point, my posts are probably just about useless..so I`m done on this thread so i can get back to writing with an imperfect but totally useable Konakt 1.2 :) Hoping u`re having a good day..Rich

    Hello all,

I think there are two groups of users on this thread: The tech-whiners and the digital shrinks. I used to go nuts (whining) about this dfd thing not so long ago. Kontakt 1.2 dfd is not working at all for me. No more words on that one. I think both of these groups must be understood. The need to whine or complain and feel better afterwards, or the need to heel and educate, feeling you have done good contribution to the community. I am trying now to be Dr. Dansibjörninn...

I recommend everything from a heavy-weight lifting to a philosophical thinking. Play your accoustic thing and have a good smoke. Do a yoga or dedicate yourself into taoism. Finally, go to the "NI whining corner" of Kontakt. Y´know when your are angry, you can play the "drums" or in other words complain. I will start this whining corner soon. The moderators will be the digital shrinks.

I would rather like to wait and get a bugfree version of Kontakt. I am hopeful it´s coming soon. I don´t need another "dfd mosquito" inside my computer.

    Best to all of you.

    Here's something I don't get.

    Kontakt 1.2 was released.
    Then Reaktor 4.0 was released.
    Then Reaktor 4.0.1 was released.
Then Reaktor 4.0.2 was released (with a ton of fixes).

...and still no update for Kontakt. I like the Reaktor team's approach much better. Fix 50 or so bugs, then release an update. For some I think all they care about is the pitch fix bug if you're not running 44.1 samples, and in the first week or so of the Kontakt 1.2 release someone from NI said they found and fixed the bug.

So I wonder why NI doesn't have a consistent update policy? As long as each update is a step forward, I'd be happy.

NI has a large team of programmers and they work in various combinations to produce their products. Absynth, for example, is basically programmed by just one main guy, while some of the larger programs (Reaktor, Kontakt) are programmed by more people. Different programmers are assigned to different projects at any given time. So the update schedule for one program really has nothing to do with another. Look at Battery -- has barely been updated since its release!

As usual, I post with the disclaimer that I am not an NI employee so do not speak for them. But I am probably accurate in saying that porting Reaktor is their primary concern, as it's their flagship product, and also the one upon which some other products were built. (I heard that the B4 was first built entirely in Reaktor...and I wouldn't be surprised if the same were true of Pro-52/53, FM7, etc. Once Reaktor is ported, I bet it makes some of their smaller products much easier to port.

Now Kontakt is different. Kontakt is one of their newer products, and (I'm guessing) probably one of their most popular, perhaps even more popular than Reaktor. I don't know if it's based upon Reaktor. I would guess that it is not. But it is following a different schedule. I bet they have to do some reprioritizing in figuring out how to balance work on their flagship (Reaktor -- and all its smaller derivations) with their most popular (Kontakt).

So what to say? I wish this "1.2.1 when?" thread would die. NI will release 1.2.1 when it's ready. It won't be out before it's ready. There's really no point in the four pages of speculation and questions. It's enough for NI to know that this update is desperately wanted, and I'm sure they know it is, and I'm sure they are prioritizing as best they can. But only they know the *best* way to go about things.

The only way to kill this thread is by releasing a perfect-working Kontakt ;)

This thread isn't totally about whining and complaining about Kontakt, its more like a support group for people who have pent up angst. In this case, I think the conversation itself is more important than the topic. (Can I coin that?) Sure, developers may find this thread annoying, but they don't HAVE to read it. For all the trouble Kontakt has given us, the least you could do is let us talk about it :p Besides, discussing our common interests is good for building the Konakt community. There's more to a message board than just messages.

Sure, release your pent-up angst. I'm not saying this thread will be censored or anything. I am just remarking that wading through four pages of complaints shows me how much time people are spending complaining rather than making music and getting on with their productive lives. I mean to say -- the point has been made. Kontakt 1.2.1 will be released as soon as it's ready...and you wouldn't really want it a day sooner than that.

I'm an avid Kontakt user. I know its shortcomings, and its bugs. But I still make a ton of music using it and other tools. If I can't get Kontakt to do what I want it to, I find something else that will. (And I post a note to try and find a fix to the problem.) But I've got better things to do than continue to add to four pages of postings that essentially say the same things... (yet here I am...)

Just trying to keep the peace here...I know it's been a long wait...hopefully not too much longer.

    annoying

    The piont is
Some of us are unable to write the music we want as the cpu keeps overloading!!!
I really wish i didnt have to waste my time here,
and yes after waiting so long i expect 1.2.1 to fix
    these problems.

    Peace

Really, I think there are 2 camps here - The first camp has had their productivity shot so bad because of Kontakt bugs, they feel too discouraged to continue. Music is all about flow, and having that flow ground to a halt really dries up the very fragile creativity gland. So, these people come to the community, talk about their probs, and then maybe feel better. After relaying their concerns to the community, they no longer feel so discouraged, and are again encouraged to try again.

The second camp is full of people who have found the workarounds they need to keep the workflow relatively smooth, and their creativity pump is hardened by years of experience of dealing with buggy tools. There may be different reasons for their ability to find workarounds, but the main reason is that they probably have more tools to choose from, and their machines may just be naturally more stable for Kontakt to run on. A lot of people in camp 1 DON'T have many tools other than Kontakt, or may simply have some buggy hardware drivers, which is not their fault at all. Samplers are very exoensive, and Kontakt may be the only sampler they could afford. So, a person with many tools because of a bigger budget has a lot more ways to work around a problem then someone who had to save forever just to get Kontakt.

So, I think we all just need to recognize that certain people have more options than others, and are better equipped to find work arounds, and are more immune to the headaches that soft-sampling gives, while possibly having more stable hardware drivers as well. We should also recognize that these customer complaints are mostly psychological in function, and actually help people get back to work much better than someone else telling them to "stop wasting their time complaining and get back to work". By doing this, you only make them even more disgruntled than when they got here, whereas if you just let them have their say, ignoring them if you like, they would just feel better, and naturally be encouraged enough to get back to work anyway.

For these reasons, tolerance is a principle.

    exactly

not all of us can afford work arounds either i myself bought Kontakt thinking it would do what i needed it to and i can not afford another sampler (and the free ones just don't cut it )

Disk streaming is a must and if you work in SX it doesn't allways work properly this is something that was promised so now we expect it

i have barely complained about kontakt other than the AKAI import problem as i feel disk streaming is something that will be fixed but its getting to be a very long time and as said above not all of us have work arounds
