    Hey all,

    I'm super excited about being able to do this within Ableton Live- but it's not working for me for some reason. I tried to follow exactly what the new vid said, but no dice. Anyone try this yet successfully? Can you walk me through what you did pretty please?

    Cheers,

    Victor

    DUDE YOU'RE AMAZING! that's exactly what I'm aiming to do- except I'm getting tripped up: I create a new midi track, I choose Maschine 1 for MIDI FROM, but then beneath that, my only options are Post and Pre FX, no Maschine, like you have in the video. What gives?

    Thanks!

    @---> mattsg27

    Can you describe what you did as per settings, that's what I've been waiting for.

    That video makes it look easy---I have the settings set up like that as well--but can't trigger the pads and have it record midi events. I can write in notes but all that does is use the individual sounds across the scale , not the actual kit sounds. :S

    The only thing I can think of for some of you having trouble is to make sure the Group is set to "sounds to MIDI notes" in the sound MIDI batch setup.

    I think I had this switched on when I did it, but dont remember for sure :)

    Gotta say that this is one of my favorite new features (even though it is such a small one)

    @mattsg27, are you just using Maschine's USB as the MIDI IN/OUT? I can't for the life of me figure this out...

    sounds to me that you are using the AU version of the Maschine plugin in Ableton Live?

    if you are on a Mac use the VST version of the Maschine plugin.

    Does this work if you have already recorded patterns but just want to jam between them into Ableton? Ie recording your pattern switching as you do it?

    @sowari √

    I'm new at all this and needed a hobbie, can you start a thread or something to explain how to use the device VST version in live.

    Thanks

    What I don't get is that this guy is using Maschine as vst right.

    and mattsg27 looks like he's using AU.

    I'm able to get Audio on Live with AU settings however, can't record.

    mattsg27----> Can you explain your settings, Share the Lov.

    All this did was allow me to draw in correct notes on the piano roll and hear the sounds now, but can't play the pads to input notes. :eek: I'm on a PC, if that matters. Do I need to switch to MIDI controller mode or something?

    It seems the sound level meter is only coming from Machine 1 (first track) and the actual MIDI track 2 isn't triggering (level indicator circled meter) isn't signalling. Only when I write in notes from the mouse do these notes trigger, even though track 2 is armed.

    Within Live's Preferences ("Files/Folders" sub tab from memory) you'll see options relating to plugins. On OSX systems by default Live is configured to see only AU plugins - not VST plugins (even if they are present on your system). You'll see an option to tick to enable VST plugins - Live will take a few moments to scan through all VST plugins present since it is the first time it has seen them.

    Now, in the Live Browser, your AU and VST plugins will appear in separate folders.

    By using VST plugins (in hosts which support it on OSX) you'll not only get around the limitation of AU format which prevents plugins capable of generating MIDI to pass it on downstream, but also using VST plugins exclusively ensures your Ableton projects will open perfectly on Windows based systems.

    Since I use both OSX (laptop) and Windows (big desktop system) cross platform portability of projects is a vital aspect of my workflow. Even if you don't work with Windows systems, observing this tip will help you when working with collaborators on Windows.

    What do you mean set the group to sounds to midi notes? In maschine or Ableton? I cant find it. I did exactly what they did in the video, Im using the VST and still my midi track shows no activity but my maschine track does. What am I doing wrong?

    What he's referring to is int he software--right/click the group and the context menu to bring up midi batch window and set midi to notes.

    Also, I feel kinda dumb--because I actually reverted back to Maschine 1.1 and that's probably why I can't get it to work. heh, my bad.:eek: I'll try it when I get home from work.

    Ok, Ive done it. But wouldnt recording audio from maschine into Ableton be a better idea then midi? If you could explain why someone would want to do it this way I would appreciate it. Thanks
