I don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong! If anyone @ NI read this just put your 5 cents on this. It's the person on the video using VST if yes, how the hell he's able to tap and record...? If what he's using is AU againg.... How the hell he's able to tap and record right into live 8...

If none of this can be done just come out and explain WTF is this guy doing.

mattsg27 might be using a Mac but is not using the AU plugin he is using the VST plugin.

you don't say what you have done.... after loading a kit did you use Sounds To MIDI Notes in the Sounds MIDI Batch Setup?

lastly, you need to press Shift + Control so that the Maschine Controller is in MIDI Mode and will trigger the MIDI Channel and not the Maschine Software directly.
you will have to touch the Group E Pad to make sure that Maschine is sending on the correct octave.

    hey sowari,

this is not in MIDI mode. It records the data from maschine regardless with this new update, thats what is exciting about it.
    ---
It all depends on how you want to work.

I build songs in session view. As the song changes through its progressions, I add different drum parts (this is where copying and adding onto the clip comes in handy).

Because I can't load VSTs in Maschine, I have to load them in Live. After compiling several tracks inside Ableton - and arranging them into a song (i.e. multiple clips of multiple instruments) - it is easier for me to quickly create new clips for drums. That way I don't have to jump back and forth between Live's sequencer and Maschine's sequencer. I think that is more cumbersome.

Of course, all this would be a moot point if I could just load VSTs in Maschine ;)

The question is... "Will Maschine Ever Be Recognize As A Controller Suface" on any Apps?

@Sowari..... Thanks for opening my eyes,

So can you record maschine pattern changes on the fly in ableton? Ie rather than recording the pattern changes via audio I can do so via midi?

You can do it with program changes, but not midi. That would be an ideal scenario.

I have tried just about every setting and configured it according to the video and have Sounds to MIDI Notes enabled. Can't get it to work.

I have MIDI Track 1 with Maschine, MIDI track 2 set up as shown in the video.

But it plays from my keyboard and other pad controller. By that I mean... I set it up like Matt shows in his video. It won't work, I then choose "ALL INS" and can play trigger the sounds of Maschine on MIDI Track 2

Another test to confirm Ableton would see the controller input...

I switched Maschine over to MIDI Mode and could see the MIDI activity light flashing inside Ableton. But of course it was trying to trigger chromatically on the selected sound, just like my keyboard does when triggering in Pad Mode.

    How frustrating!
    ---
And here's another update. I can successfully get it to work with midi keyboard (playing each sound from each pad, bass drum, snare, etc) and record into the pattern inside Live.

Changing the Sounds to MIDI setting allows EVERY controller except the Maschine hardware to work as demonstrated in Matt's video.

nigeek, out of interest what happens if you only have the Maschine Controller connected?

btw, the Maschine Controller does play chromatically in normal mode.

    Hi Sowari,

I tested only with the the Maschine connected and it still won't work :S

The thing that confuses me the most and isolates the issue to the MIDI side of Maschine:

In Ableton, I drag Maschine to a MIDI track, it opens, Maschine lights up and I can record patterns inside of Maschine's software.

But if I activate the Ableton track and record a clip, no data is captured in the clip. If I connect my MIDI keyboard, the data from the keyboard is recorded.

I think I mentioned that if I go into Control Mode, the MIDI activity lights on Ableton blink when I press a Maschine pad. It also will record data into the Ableton clip while it's in Control Mode.

At this point, I have no idea of what else to try. It's the strangest thing. The hardware works inside of the Maschine software, both in StandAlone and Plugin.

It appears to be how Ableton detects Maschine

Does it matter if I have the Maschine folder from the control editor copied over to my Ableton folder? I've tried it both ways and received the same results.

Thank you very much for the suggestions and help!

i cant' figure out how to set up several tracks with External Instrument devices feeding Maschine. all groups play what goes out of the first (1-Maschine out) track.

is there a way to set up midi channels to each group?

    thanks for your help!

    set it up like this

Load maschine onto a track, you will then need 8 more tracks, the first track will be just midi because audio will be handled on the same track as maschine, the rest will be external instruments.

I've got a template/project set up exactly like this so I can have midi/audio on the same channels.

    So you have maschine.

    midi track

    7 external instrument channels.

    9 tracks total.

Then it's just a matter of setting the routings, on the external instrument tracks, you have to set the routing down in the device view not just on the track part.

Point it to the track Maschine is on, then in the second drop down pick which midi channel your sending to.

I believe I used "sounds to midi channels" instead of sounds to midi notes, so each group receives on a different midi channel, A - 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc. I'm pretty sure that's how I did it, but I'm not at home to test it lol.

I also set my outputs of each group to use external outs. Group A goes to master, then the rest start at ext-2 and end with ext-8

I've attached some pics of how I have it setup.

I'm on Live 7 still if that makes any difference

OK, I solved my issue. turns out I wasn't using the correct input from MIDI Track 1.

As I show in the screen shot, I was choosing the MIDI controllers, (the one outlined by the BLACK BOX) not the the redirecting of MIDI from channel 1 (outlined by the RED BOX)

This in combination with the Sound MIDI Batch Setup setting of "Sounds to MIDI Notes"

Makes it work perfectly as outlined in Matt's video.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp4CoNxf9_c

So if anyone has any questions, please let me know. I spent a silly amount of time on this simple issue. Wanted to save people the time and the simple oversight that I had

As shown in the video you have to have each of the below set to Maschine:

    Input Type
    Input Channel

    Output Type
    Output Channel

    thanks for your answer.
to be complete, the correct setting inside maschine is "sounds to midi notes", and then, you have to set the correct midi channel for each note according to its group ( (that's what i was missing).
got it working now, that's great, thanks again.

well, i'm not completely done yet.

i can't play any instrument in maschine with an external keyboard.

for instance, if i put an instrument on sound 1 of group B, and then in live i set up a track to play on Maschine midi channel 2 (with en ext. instrument device), the only note that works when i play my keyboard is C3 (the note of the first maschine pad).

    is it a limitation?

I haven't figured that one out yet due to the way we have to set things up in ableton, I have to mess around with it some more. I had the same limits, which pretty much negated the desire to use it this way lol.

I just wanted to know how to do it really.
