    Seconded.
Mapping a Roland A-800 controller to Arturia V-Suite VSTs is a Royal P.I.T.A
NI did a great job of the knobs in Maschine automatically mapping to the functions of the VSTs
Controlling them from Maschine is a doddle - we can even set up our own page with the functions / knobs we want on them!
We even have a nice easy LEARN button under them to map our controller knobs and sliders to them and it just WORKS!
    Beautifully done, NI. So simple.
So why the hell can't I record this? It's ludicrous!

It's a non-trivial task to implement this. Currently, Maschine records modulation. It does not record automation. To incorporate automation, they'd have to think about how to implement the recording and displaying of two different types of adjustments concurrently, they'd also have to resolve 'jumping parameters' and implement soft takeovers, and how to deal with the various types of relative encoders etc...

The difference between using Maschine's knobs and external controllers is explained in the manual "8.2.2 Controlling Parameters via MIDI and Host Automation".

...I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm just saying that it isn't as easy to implement as people might think.

Hey Rob - you clearly understand and know your stuff.
I just dont see the difference between - moving a knob on Maschine which controls and moves a variable value and moving a knob / slider which is mapped to that knob.
Maybe it's a simplistic way of thinking - It's just a different knob!
The external knob is already altering the value in the way that Maschine's knob is doing - to my way of thinking it's just a matter or recording that value as it shifts during recording - irrespective of what it's source of input may be - whether it be Mouse, Maschine Knob or Mapped Controller - only a matter of capturing that changing value as it moves during recording.
I'm just an average guy though - Im sure the boffins at NI would have already incorporated it if it was as simple as Im making out!

    Cheers.

    (another) Rob.

when i move something in chanel 12 that work but that work with itch chanel ,i have 4 same controleurs not on the same chanel one on the 8,9 another on 11 and the last on 12 i use the mapping to remix decks out C/D(faders +filters out+effectknob out on traktor by iac driver sending midi to maschine ,i have routed all my thing in maschine by the learn midi improve and when i move a fader calling in my mapping traktor fader 1remix deck C that move in same times in maschine what i make on another chanel ( that work perfect with ableton live but not with maschine?)

    need help please

Ive noticed the midi in channel not working or just being ignored a few times now. Are you recording the midi and playing back into traktor? I set the maschine step sequencer up before to play the remix decks, it worked quite well. Maybe try using the traktor and maschine virtual midi ports, might perform better than the iac driver.

same with all virtual midi software for example i make at macro 1 on groupe A1 with cc019 ch9 that work but that work to for cc019 ch 8,11,12 .. on my mapping CC019 ch 9 is for fader 1 remixdeck C ,i make this on on macro 1 ..cc019 ch 12 on macro 2 calling fader1 remix deck D (not the same in/out assignation ) if i move one fader that move the 2 macro in same times ,i m going to another group, i reset macro 2 on group A
learn a macro on another group that same ..group A midi in iac ch9 ,groupe B midi in iac ch 11 ,maschine don't take count to the routing i made
    is it a bug ?
ty in advance for your help :S

I know you're a knowledgeable user lethalpizzle, in your opinion do you think ni needs to hire someone with better coding chops to bring the idea of a capable groovebox to fruition?

Why not just use autowrite from Maschines knobs or set to Macros and autowrite from there? Still a valid request imo. but personally more concerned that you can't use Maschines knobs to generate midi CC to an external device.

    @dj wo k - I replied really slow

I ran into problems using different channels, if i set a group to say channel 12, then another group to 13, channel 14 & 15 got ignored even when they where correctly setup.

Ive just tried it again and in 2.06 it seems to be fixed, or its just behaving itself today :)

Just so I get this right you are sending midi from the traktor controller to maschine? Im usually pretty good at that kindve thing, pm me if you like so this thread doesn't get derailed.

The video helps :) can you try going into group midi settings on maschine and set them to a different midi input port (or set them to none) the sound settings are affected by the group settings I think, when I was looking into it the group setting seemed to cause the trouble. I might be wrong but it only takes a second and might fix it. Good luck

no .. here http://youtu.be/Vt-xPoBC26U you can take a look to my ableton is working well with my trics not on maschine (i m going to work with my ableton +maschine +traktor ) ty for reply ,that cause a big routing between all parts of my daw

i hope one day NI rework his mind and take count we don't have just NI hardware & improve to us the possibilities to do what we want

    best regard Arnold

yes by jackosx ( available on windows to ) i can record traktor at any times with maschine but i can't take the control to the volume parts in maschine by midi without ableton
(that provide many latency),traktor audio on maschine, maschine audio on ableton ,traktor midi out on ableton sending midi to maschine @#^*@&
this routing make me crazy :)

this was the reply I got from NI
    "
Have you been able to map the Controllers to the Macro Knobs within Maschine 2?
This should work so far. To record the automation it must be used in a DAW via
    Host Automation."

I have created a work around with FL studio to do this it works.

Because I have a friggin Maschine Mikro and a pretty decent Novation 61SL mk2 with tons of knobs and sliders? It's just silly that we can't use our other hardware peripherals to do record some simple automation. The knob on the Mikro is horrible for automation purposes (notchy and not at all nice to use) and there's only one. Yeah, I'll probably upgrade to a Maschine Studio at some point but it's still silly of NI not to allow automation recording from something else.

And as for the "it's not as simple as one would think" comments, that's just a sorry excuse. It's simple to implement, unless they royally screwed up the software. The automation is already built in, there's no reason for it not to work with external hardware. A simple toggle switch for automation writing/latch/whatever like in all other software is easily doable.

Bringing this thread back to life to see if the latest update still has this issue! I've mapped the knobs and faders of my mpd26 to the controls I want to automate (even tried with macros) did the "learn" thing too but still having the issue where I can make the automation changes but I can't actually record them. I'm using a mikro, keystation mini 32 (for instant piano roll) and recently implemented my mpd26 just to use the faders and pots, but to no avail. I've tried every midi in/out or sync configuration in preferences that I can but none of them are working, weird thing is I swear it worked yesterday, I used the pitchwheel and sustain on my keystation and was able to record the automation for it....anyway I figured I'd resurrect this thread from 2 years ago to see if anyone has figured a way around this with the latest update
