    My point exactly.
If it is compatible, which it is as far as the announcement goes, then why do MK1 and MK2 owners get to pay again. It's not a stand-alone software like Cubase or Live, it's the OS for Maschines, so I think the Apple comparison is quite valid.
And I for one don't like how NI handles that. Doesn't change the fact that I like and use my Maschine still, I just won't update.
It's sort of disturbing to me how some people feel insulted by that statment and feel the need to prove me wrong. I'm not telling anyone who wants to pay for the update that they shouldn't, and I'd rather have it the other way around, too.
    Cheers.

Which is a standalone piece of software and not an operating system or part of a hardware bundle, if I am not mistaken.
Never used it and can't really say, but like I said in my previous post, I also don't mind to pay for Cubase Updates.

Guys, You can't expect a company to sit around and pay a team of developers for 2 years just to give you the product for free.

$100 is a reasonable price for a software upgrade. I just don't know if I need it. I'm sure there will be some features I'll want.

I did think the K9 Ultimate upgrade price was too high and therefore I didn't buy it as I had planned.

There have been many free incremental updates. Some of those increments have been pretty huge. When a company completely rewrites the software though that is more than just a firmware update, that's entirely new software and I think it's reasonable for them to charge for it. It's not like your original software is going to stop working and you need to upgrade to keep using your maschine. I didn't buy Windows 8 and my old dell is still running just fine. I think.

Also to be fair, I don't think a company like NI is able to absorb the cost of software development solely through new hardware sales like Apple is. Unless we hear that 9 million Maschine Studios are shipping next month or something it's not really a comparable situation.

    NI disappointed me again !
I'm not an Apple user/fan, who say "only $99 !"

It's a pity ! I'm really thinking to change my camp, going direct to the dark side.

But you got the Mikro at a reduced cost, right, and with free expansions? You got a deal, and now you only have to pay for a software upgrade. Compare what you spent and received with what Mikros cost now. They come with 2.0 for free, but you pay full price for the hardware and don't get to pick out expansion packs.

Because they don't always give things away for free?

I've never gotten anything for free from NI lol. Would be nice but I have bought Maschine MK 2, Komplete 8 and 9, and all of the Maschine expansions.

NI is free to charge any amount they deem appropriate for whatever products or services they offer.

That said, I do think $100 is a bit much. I'd feel more inclined to update if it were somewhere in the range of $30 - $50. But hey, that's just my opinion. 1.x.x is still great software.

    Well... no.

    No neither.

    ??

But i don't blame N.I. they do their business as they want... I was just not very lucky on this one.

I simply asked them for a free upgrade, i'll see what will happen.

I think $99 is spot on personally. Right around what I would expect.

Yeah. Seems fair, pretty good actually for a complete code re-write from the foundation.

That's it, I'm done with Maschine and NI... they want to charge for everything!!! It would be nice to have freebies every once in awhile like back in the day.

    I'm out!!!

In the last year they've given away Massive to all Maschine users, along with Driver and a free 25 euro voucher. They're giving away Prism, Vintage Buss Compressor and Scarbee MK1 to everyone that upgrades. When Christmas rolls around they traditionally give away more stuff too.

i done told these jokers that kept worrying about mk1 or mk2 not being compatible that they were being silly from the jump

i fail to understand how these intelligent people could not conceive that it is possible to upgrade the software and still allow the older controllers to work using different shortcuts available in the current hardware.

As long as the new software is nicely integrated with the old hardware, I personally feel like $100 is fair (although I totally understand why other cats would disagree).

Looking forward to Nov. 1, man.

Damn, I had no idea they'd be doing that. That definitely justifies the price, then!

Where do I pay, I want to pre-order now!! software only. I'm so psyced for this. But not even excited for the big controller. if I had a limitless budget, I would get the studio, it seems like perfect centrepiece for a studio. I wish MK2 got a price drop oh well

What you say about Apple products is simply not true unless you are talking about iOS devices. Tiger -> Leopard - Paid. Leopard -> Snow Leopard - Paid. Snow Leopard -> Lion - Paid. Lion -> Mountain Lion - Paid. Mountain Lion -> Mavericks - You get the idea.
