Since the update is only incremental, there haven't been enough changes for Traktor to actually require 10.7 as shown by all the people that have copied the app over from a newer OS.

It is a little strange that they'd drop support for an OS that's newer than Windows 7 though..

C'mon NI! Please...there is a bunch of us with 10.6.8, and yes it is rock solid. I'm afraid to upgrade the OS and loose this stability.

    Do you really need 10.7?

    Best, M.

This is a ****ing nightmare. Many pro studios do not update OS's due to plugin compatibility and dedicated DSP cards. They are completely disregarding the professionals that keep older OS's because they are proven to be more stable.

I've been asking the other studios here in LA also and they all are complaining about this as well. Most of the older managers all agree that updating when every other software is completely stable is professionally too risky.

To not allow a previously compatible OS without being warned is extremely bad business. I really do hope NI realize what they're doing. This is as stupid as Akai not making their Renaissance a standalone machine. Probably worse because they didn't even tell us beforehand!

I guess we can complain as much as we want, NI won't change anything.

So I decided to do a fresh install of 10.8 on my 2010 MBP. Well, it runs great so far, no performance issues. Only my battery runtime did decrease significantly and it's getting a little bit warmer when doing nothing else than writing documents or using the browser - guess that comes from all the new visual stuff and effects. :(

It's a bit puzzling that the Service Center couldn't notice what OS X version it's running under, when it downloaded the update. But maybe that's better in the end though as it makes the update accessible at least.

When I can find some time I plan to install Lion on a USB stick and install Traktor 2.6.1 and analyze and see if I can make it work under OS X 10.6.8, by copying files. I don't think it's likely to work at all, but worth exploring.
    ---
They will if we complain directly to them in mass and if NI can be motivated to do a rerelease technically. We don't know yet the reason to require OS X 10.7. I suspect the sync with Traktor DJ app and that Apple is behind this, because Apple itself is worst in the class not supporting older software. Apple support hardware very well though, but in the end it's also Apple that made OS X Lion unstable.

You don't read the posts? Lion crashes on a regular basis also on a fresh install and there have been a lot of other complaints from numerous people since Lion was released.
I also defended Lion for a very long time from a high number of people with bad experiences until I realized the issues I had with many many apps freezing and taking down the whole OS (!) couldn't be fixed by the help of Apple support, nor by the community. All my software was OS X Lion approved. I researched that very thoroughly and updated every app that needed it. I updated everything in the OS that was needed too.

As a contrast under OS X 10.6 everything works as rock solid as I expect Mac OS X to operate. 24//7 for 3 years is the operation I normally have had on all my Macs since 2000.

I need to find an acceptable sound card with 4 out and 5ms of latency before I can upgrade to 10.8.
    ---
I've made a technical support request to Native Instruments to please rerelease a 10.6 compatible 2.6.1 version. If you feel Native Instrument should support OS X 10.6 for the rest of the Traktor 2 Pro 2.6.x life cycle then please do the same.

Of course there may be valid technical reasons that are unavoidable and that warrants dropping 10.6 support, but I find it unlikely that Traktor is such an application.

Thais a really Bad Lücken for. I have two machines which run now ML and then both started with lion and I had never ever a Problem with these systems. And actually with mountain lion, they run also better as with lion.

And with Ma experience in windows: A crash is often not the fault of an OS than the drivers or Apps from other manufacturers.

what about the license when installing on 10.8

    Hi,

just wanted to know from the people who installed the new traktor on 10.8 then copy it on the 10.6....

Do you need to register it also on the mac who has 10.8 to make it work or can you just do a basic install and copy the file from 10.8 to 10.6?

    Thanks for your answers!

I installed the update manually in OS X 10.6.8 with the help of a well known shareware app for these kinds of situations. No modifications to the installer itself.
Traktor 2.6 is already registered on my machine of course.

I'm reanalyzing my library with keys and everything as I write this.
    ---
Mac OS X is not comparable to Windows.

The reason in this case is an inability from Apple to support its own openly supported hardware in some cases. In my case the airport card. I had no issues with the Echo driver in 32bit kernel mode and of course tested a fresh install without this.

There are good reasons to keep run OS X 10.6.8 if you're a musician with expensive unsupported hardware and software that just works. I know many musicians in that situation, especially on the label I work with.

Now that I'm running Traktor 2.6.1 in OS X 10.6.8 I at least I have some time to find a supported Audio card before I upgrade to OS X 10.8. Future will see if I need to get a specific performance machine.

I'm grateful that Native Instruments made Traktor 2 so wickedly great. It has come a long way since the first beta in 2000. I especially enjoy the support of a wide variety of audio formats. Thanks!

Definitely am looking for a method as well. I have two macs but both are 10.6 and I cannot upgrade due to firmware.
    ---
GENTLEMEN, I have found the solution!

    Just use this shareware
    http://www.charlessoft.com/

and open up the installer and you can just drag the Traktor.app under the package and it will work fine on 10.6.

    Tested!

My firmware doesn't allow for the computer to be updated. I can only update if I were to upgrade my CPU which is not exactly possible on a mac laptop.

The more complete way is to do an complete "install" with that app and then extract the Traktor app itself if that failed to be properly put ( it did for me). It would be a good idea to make sure you have properly activated 2.6.0 on your machine, even though I don't think it will be blocked if not. After all the license is still valid.

It should be noted that of course when you're running Traktor 2.6.1 under Mac OS X 10.6 you cannot expect Native Instruments to give support nor can you expect everything to work.

That said, I love the new key analysis and Traktor 2.6.1 seems very stable.

You're right. I did that first without copying the Traktor app, so I moved over the app and it worked. Forgot that I did the installation through the shareware as well. I'll update the other thread as well.
