I think you guys got the UI reversed.

Orange dot usually means something is turned on for me to manually use - the FX knobs for example. If I turn on the gain knobs (orange), I expect to use them. If they're off (blue), then the standard system settings are applied, including auto-gain.

Maybe that's why everyone is confused.

I have to re-analyze my playlist every time I open Traktor as the auto gains of all the tracks keep resetting to 0. Anyone else have this issue?

I had it selected in the preferences already. But I de-seleted it and then reselected it and it seems to have done the trick. Cheers.

I got bit with this one too, there's definitely something sketchy happening. I had the autogain set in prefs, but every time I loaded a track into a deck, the autogain would be reset to zero and written back to the track.

    Solved (I think) by:

    1) unset autogain in prefs
    2) quit Traktor
    3) start Traktor
    4) reset autogain in prefs
    5) quit Traktor
    6) start Traktor

Now everything seems to be operating normally. But not before I had a bunch of autogain settings overwritten.

    This may help some.
I usually use autogain and like it. It is almost always right.
But I found myself still increasing volume and mids/hi on my eq as I mixed eventually just having to fade/filter a track and start over with lower volume.

Not only that my effects with white noise would be low/inaudible?

So I set my overhead to "none"
I turned my master volume to a bit less than half.
    And I unchecked/disabled the limiter.

All seems to be way better. I have to make sure of tracks that may be heavy on the bass/low but usually easy as the waveform is big and easy to see it is punchy just turn the low a tad up or filter.

I am pretty sure my tracks are not perfect and the limiter was muffling any mids/hi for tracks mixed in. The overhead I am pretty aure that had something to do with effects being set at a certain volume.

I could be wrong but so far not using limiter is so much better especially for cutting in and heavy effects.

For simple track to track and precise eq use the limiter and overhead was not an issue as I could change gain or fix as needed slowly.

This also seems to be better for my f1 and remix set sound way crisp.

Autogain is broken in TP 2.6.0

I've read all the posts in this thread because I have similar issues with autogain.

Definitely there is something broken with autogain, before updating to Traktor 2.6.0 I recorder a DJ set using a playlist, each track was analyzed and an autogain value given and stored. All the set hears with the same volume.

Then after updating to Traktor 2.6.0 I wanted to record another DJ Set and used another playlist, I verified the gain knob and it was in blue and at 0 db, As soon as I started playing the tracls I noticed a lot of clipping ocurring (the master output level (Main bars) several times was in the orange/red zone) some songs were louder and other quieter, a complete mess.

So to test this I loaded the other playlist, for the DJ set recorded with TP 2.5, and again some tracks were louder, others quieter and the Main bars sometimes at the orange/red zone. The gain knobs were in blue and with 0db.

I reanalyzed the whole tracks from the playlist, noticed that TP 2.6.0 applied the exact gain values as TP 2.5, played the tracks and the same mess.

So indeed something is broken with the autogain.

Additionally something very odd happened, the recording meter (since I was recording) never reached the orange/red zone and noticed that the meter bars were very stable. So I decided to hear the test I just recorded and guess what, the WAV file hears very good! no clipping, constant volume, and I must say with better quality that TP 2.5, how come that?

My guess is that the limiter, gains, etc used for recording are different that the ones used for the master output?.

A second bug that I'm also facing is that some analyzed tracks, when loaded to the decks, their autogain values are reset to 0db, sometimes happens, others not.

    NI please fix those bugs

autogain is working well, if you understand the intended orange and blue function of the knob.

    BUT
prelistening a track in the preview deck resets the autogain value to zero.
that is the major problem using 2.6.

    cheers

Hi Chill. I perfetly understand the new gain functions, about the red and blue indicators.

My TP 2.6 has all the gain knobs in blue with 0db, IMHO this is how previous traktor versions gain was. But even having all gain knobs in blue with 0db the traks play at inonsistent volumes, as reported in my previous message I tested with the same tracks used in traktor 2.5 and I'm getting very different results.

Still this? I don't regret passing on 2.6.0, I've learned the lesson, no install till I'm sure there's no headaches or NI pay me for testing, nobody does nothing for free these days and I have better things to do that getting frustrated with a product that should work spot on on the first place because is already released and I already paid for it.

I know we're talking about software and bingo bongos but one thing are minor bugs that every software will ever have and another thing is that you can't use it because if you do it, it screws your collection gain settings.

I don't think Richie and other pros adopt the new versions as soon as amateur users here do, they can't afford being screwed by a "pro" software in front of thousands and neither can I even if I only play for hundreds, I feel more and more like returning to plain CDJs now and pass on computers on the booth, too dangerous nowadays given the speed at what new software releases and updates are done.

Yeah, that was a rant! haha!

So on your side with your rant Kenny. I too, have had gain issues from the beginning of 2.6, posted my issues when it first came out, (apparently at that time my metadata or transient data was corrupt from transferring from a MacBook unibody to my MacBook Pro. I had to uninstall Traktor Pro, reinstall, but then had to reanalyze all of my collection because I was afraid to import that corrupted transient data. Lots of headaches, but got it all working up until....
...In the early am hours of 1/10/13, I was working on my set that I was to drop later that evening, and noticed that the tracks I had been working on for my set failed to SAVE the auto gain info (adjusted by me manually for optimum live sound). I too read all of these forum posts, and even went to DJTechTools, (I have my own rant up there from that morning) but I have come to the conclusion, that:

    1. Having the auto-gain preference selected, as well as when you load new tracks into the decks and Preview player Re-Adjusts the auto gain set by the user back to 0.0db no matter what the ID3 tag information each track/mp3/wav/flac file was initially set. However, re-analyzing each track, resets it back to the original information, but also wipes out any beat grid that was manually stored by the user if the bpm lock is disabled.

    2. This new option of being able to save auto-gain (orange) information to each track is flaky and unreliable for each Traktor user...
    a. I am not sure if this is due to the various track's ID3 data
    b. Each user's computer platform (Seems to be diverse issues with both PC and MAC users--I being an OSX 10.8.2 user, and seems that even the drivers are not cooporative with my platform)
    c. The varying Traktor Pro preferences with headroom/limiter options could also play a big part of the auto-gain sound option. I have mine set to -3db, with no limiter. My main channel gain to usually around -4.8db (depending on each track). My recording level is usually at -3.6db. I notice a lot of users having issues have varying settings, and some even play with the limiter on (<<time to take the training wheels off ;))

    3. The only thing I can think of that caused the change in my auto-gain data not saving to the track is the most recent update from NI for the Controller Editor 1.5.3 in late December? But I would've noticed that my manually adjusted auto-gain's were not saving when I played live on 12/24...

I literally had a panic attack the day of my 1/10 show, after realizing my latest 2.6 issue and how I didn't have enough time to uninstall/reinstall Traktor Pro, or even go back to 2.5 to try to fix my problem....my remedy for the day of was to put each of my tracks for my set in Platinum Note so at least it would reduce any clipping and tracks that were recorded overly loud would be somewhat reduced, putting my mind at ease that I wouldn't be blowing any PA's or eardrums that night. When I perform, I do always manipulate the channel gain (blue option).

I too have learned a few lessons from this thread and from upgrading too quickly when an update is launched--and in the world of digital music, it is wise to give yourself ample time to prepare for a live performance just in case your software/hardware fails the morning of.

Native Instruments, I think we have a problem. Can we have a fix soon?

I apologize for the lengthy rant....

Hi. I took in that version 2.6.3 of traktor some songs sound too loud and distorted. In the graph of the output of the master get to the red zone. This does not happen in traktor 2.6.1, it sounds ok. I compared the autogain that assigns traktor songs in 2.61 and 2.6.3 and is exactly the same.
After much reflection I saw that version 2.6.3 brings no "headroom" set. If configure headroom in 2.6.1 to 0dB instead of-6dB the result is the same as in 2.6.3, bad.
I'm testing in 2.6.3 regulating the master level down-3dB-6dB ... and solve the problem, but I lose visual information of the graph of the master output.
In the versiónm 2.6.3 I can not seem to lock the gain manually modified so that if I do not change the song to analyze my setup, like I can do with the beat grid.
I'm still doing tests trying to sound as good as possible, and send to my external table audio signal with the best quality possible.

I found this tutorial and it seems that it gets better.

    http://www.digitaldjtips.com/2011/03/traktor-gain-sound-level-settings/

Does anyone know how to block the gain manually assign a song to keep that value in the future?

I received this response from NI on headroom

    Hello Gustavo Hr,

The version 2.6.3 improves the "logic" of the blend mode.

In EXTERNAL mode, no reason to adjust headroom in the software, this is done
    simply on the external mixer.

The problem is that you must adjust your gains and your volume sliders in the
outdoor table (mixer) because now you are working on a more real in the sense
    audio signal.

    Regards,
    Diego, Native Instruments Support

In my workflow I prefer to adjust the gains in the studio and avoid doing these settings in live or only adjust a little few times during the set, but i can lose all this work if i can´t block gain adjustments.

    Any suggestion??

    2.6.4 fix it

Hi. New version 2.6.4 allows block gain adjust when you block the grid.
