I realize that the latest update, particularly the Rig Kontrol driver, was specifically built for Vista. Has anyone had any experience with it in XP Pro x64? I'm going to try it tonight, but maybe someone can spare me the heartache... or alternately... encourage me to leave work early.

    update installation update

Ok... so I took the plunge and installed the 3.3 update. I have a dual boot 32 and 64 bit machine. One running xp one running xp pro x64. I use the mighty Reaper as my host, and I have an M-audio Delta 1010LT soundcard with a beta 64bit driver.

The install went off without a hitch... until I launched the standalone. I was prompted to re-activate the product. I tried the offline mode and was informed that all products were already activated. Can't get out of demo mode.

When running demo mode, I noticed that the Rig Kontrol does work! Much to my suprise. GR, however, does not load the driver for the Delta 1010LT. I only have the Reaper ReaRoute Asio driver and Rig Kontrol itself as choices.

When using GR as a plugin in Reaper x64, Rig Kontrol does not work. Haven't tested fully.

    Hope this informs the curious.

Good News for XP Pro x64 sort of...

    Ok!

The updated Rig Kontrol driver will work in XP Pro x64, at least for me anyway.

Still having activation problems with the 3.2 software update, so I rolled back the update and re-installed 3.1. Sure it's not 64bit capable, but at least I can now use the 32bit version of the software AND the Rig Kontrol on my 64bit machine. Previously, I could not get the Rig Kontrol driver to load. So, it's a step forward! No more dual booting. Finally. Thanks NI.

That is weird because while the standalone didn't work for me either, the plugin worked very well even with Rig Control driver.

It's so frustrating. I'm so close to finally having this program work the way I assumed it would. I bet it would would just fine if I could get it activated.

I just received the following from NI support:

Native Instruments products are not intended for use under the Windows XP64-Bit operating system, and technical support is not provided for this platform. The following operating systems are supported: Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OSX 10.5, Windows Vista/Vista SP1 (32-Bit/64-Bit), Windows XP SP2/SP3 (32-Bit).

You can try this to resolve the issue.

IMPORTANT: If you are unfamiliar with your Windows Registry or not confident in following these instructions, please contact a professional. Incorrectly modifying your Windows Registry can result in erratic system behavior which is not supported by NI.

1 Uninstall the program from the Add/Remove Programs control panel.

In addition, check the VST plug-in folders for each of your sequencers and make sure you have removed all VST plug-in versions from wherever you may have installed them.

2 Then delete all references to the program from the Windows Registry.

You can enter the Registry by going to Start>Run and entering 'regedit'. Then go to these folders and delete all folders/keys related to Guitar Rig 3 only:

    HK_CURRENT_USER>SOFTWARE>NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

    HK_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>NATIVE INSTRUMENTS

3 Reinstall, run the 3.2 update, and activate with Service Center.

While I appreciate their willingess to help me to try to resolve this on an "unsupported platform" by washing the registry and re-installing, I really wish they would work with me to get an XP x64 version functional. It seems to be so close... just the activation problem. There has to be an easier solution! Please NI, work with your XP x64 customer base. We are loyal customers. We want to help.

I will try this proposed solution, but my frustration will be even greater if, having spent the time deleting all references in the registry and reinstalling, I'm back at the same place. I am not optimistic at all.

I feel your pain... but with Windows XP Pro losing MS support in 2010, I felt it was necessary to covert everything over to Vista 64 bit.... so far it seems most companies are willing to support the platform (motu, echo audio, nvidia, creative labs, line 6, cakewalk, Karma-Labs, etc (and now NI)). I just wished NI had tested this new update fully.

So I did as instructed by Support. No dice. I am still caught in the activation loop. It's amazing. It works in demo mode. I have a feeling that NI are on the brink of having the whole thing (hardware and software) work in XP x64... it's just the activation problem that is holding it up. Isn't there a way to activate manually without having to go through the Service Center? Can NI provide this method as an option to registered users?

    Just thinking out loud...

Sorry Marc_S, this is not possible with my current cell phone account. Are there other means by which Tech Support in Germany may be made aware of this situation?

Email them; they will do the best to resolve it online.
You can also try Skype, which lets you call land phones at very, VERY low prices.
