I'm still trying to install the update for OSX 10.2.6
the first time, the installer stalls at 37 items left and then seems to freeze. This corrupted my trash folder for some reason, as I was unable to delete the trash. I'm checking now and the installer is still stuck on 37 items left to install. It is displaying deleting for some reason. Is anyone on 10.2.6 having the same install problems? am I doing something wrong?

    Hello,

    I had this problem.
In my case, disabling Norton Utilities FileSaver and automatic virus
checking allowed the install to go through fine.

As for the items you can"t delete, there are several shareware
programs that might help, like Trash It (see versiontracker.com). In
some cases, I"ve had to re-boot into OS 9, search for the invisible
files named ".trash", and delete these.

    Best,

I had to force a restart, but the installer seems to have updated when I checked the versionin Reaktor. I'm going to test audio units today and see if all is truly fine. Thanks for the replies, and hope this thing finally works!

You had to force a restart? Are you saying the installer locked up your entire system?

Yes, the installer locked up the system. I could move the mouse but I couldn't select anything at all. I had to restart the entire system.

Couldn't even force quit, eh? Darn, that's brutal.

What kinda shareware/disktools do you have running on your machine? That could be it...

As for deleting items in your trash, go into the terminal, and type:

    "sudo rm -rf "

Yes, put a space after the rf. Then open up the trash, drag all the items you want to delete to the terminal window so it types in all their paths, and hit return. It SHOULD delete them. If it beeps at you when you drag them in, the files have illegal characters in their name. Try renaming them (file1, file2, etc) and try again.

Also, I'd try repairing permissions and running the installer again... unless everything is okay now. :) Repairing permissions is standard OS X voodoo magic troubleshooting.

I'd stay the heck away from Norton ... seriously.

Diskwarrior is an infintely better product, and is now out for OS X. Norton has trashed several of my friend's computers, mine included. On the other hand, Diskwarrior has brought my dad's 7600's HD back from the grave countless times. It is truly good stuff.

The thing is though, if you find yourself needing a disk utility while running OS X quite frequently, you're probably doing something very very wrong. :) You'd be much better off without anything I think.
