I have installed 4 gig ram into my PC (DAW, windows xp).
In the bios the 4 gig ram shows up and when I look at Windows task manger, I can see that Total Physical memory what available is:
    3996908.

So, I launch K3 (standalone) an load Concert grand.
When I want to have all the samples in memory, during the loading of the samples K3 informs (warning) me that memory is getting low (but I am still below 2 gig usage =>1.93 gig), and if I continue, later K3 informs me that not big enough memory block is available (I am at 1.96 gig).

OK, I understand that a 32 bit application can address max 2 gig.
So I can see that K3 can not address more than 2 gig.
    Am I Correct?

Was the installation of 4 gig useless?
My sequencer is C4, and I have other VSTis.

Any help is very much appreciated.

    trif.

Not if you apply the /3GB switch and make K3 LargeAddressAware (with LaaTiDo), in which case you will be able to load somewhere between 2.5 and 3 GB.

    In any case thanks.

Some say it is worthless the 3 gig switch, some say it is OK.

In Cubase 4 I run more VSTis. How many times do I have to do the LaaTiDo?

Oh no, it's definitely not worthless. Before I applied it I couldn't get Kontakt above 2 GB, now I can reach appr. 2.5 GB.

You apply LaaTiDo to each host/plugin/standalone you want to be able to load more than 2 GB. In your case you apply it to Cubase, K3 standalone, K3 VST and any other RAM hungry plugin. But, it is still <= 3GB for C4+K3+etc. combined. The plugins use the hosts address space. So, don't expect miracles.

You might want to look into getting Vista 64 or XP 64, I think it can address 64 gigs of memory or something like that.
