    1. Can the pitch be extended to more than -/+ 8 range?

    2. When you press sync, does the music sync to the beat or is only the BPM matched?

    3. Can you run other programs in the background like Mozilla Firefox, or its not built to over stand those tasks?

    4. Is there a way to 'move the loops' to make them seamless... rather than unlooping and looping them again.. if you know what I mean?

    5. Does Traktor have loop roll?

    6. Does Traktor have a sampler?

    7. Does Traktor consist of a 'microsoft explorer' browser? Can you organize the music in 'crate' like folders?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Yes (preferences - range can be set independently for each deck)

    2. Yes

    3. Yes, but it's not a good idea (unless you've got a quick multi-core system)

    4. Yes, there's a move loop command (X1 controller does that too)

    5. No, but there's something close (mentioned in other threads)

    6. Not yet, but with a bit of preparation, you can utilise decks C+D, plus hotcues, for this

    7. It has a file browser, playlists, folder view, but no "crates"

Yep, I'd never encourage anyone to do anything else with their computer than "the thing at hand", but for what it's worth, I have been running Firefox, Thunderbird and a number of other software at the same time as using Traktor - without any glitches. My computer is a few years old MacBook with 4GB of RAM.

Furthermore, you can move the loop start/end -points separately.

It's been a while since I last used Serato (and Serato's effects particularly), but doesn't Beatmashes2 pretty much do everything a Loop Roll does ... and Beat Slicer does it a bit differently?

To expand on this response; a sampler is coming to all versions of Traktor. Currently it only exists in Traktor S4.

Hmm... isn't "crate" simply Serato's way of saying "playlist"?

^ I had a feeling that crates were handled differently than Traktor's playlists, there was discussion in the feature suggestion forum regarding it

and the Beatmasher is what I was referring too... just not 100% sure about the settings you're supposed to use - another option, if you're using a Scratch variant, is to loop like normal, then when you drop out of loop, go back to absolute mode...

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I wasn't asking about crates, I was just asking if there was a similar concept to them, like 'virtual folders.'

I have one more question however... do we have to pay for Traktor Pro updates?

Ex. Lets say Native Instruments implements a sampler into its software.. will we have to pay money to upgrade?

    Thanks!

Of course you will, because a a new feature like that will be part of an upgrade, not an update. They have a 50% discount right now, i'm pretty sure that they are preparing to release a new version of traktor on January, but first they want to clear the old stock.

Also, the Timecode DVS functionality of the Traktor S4 is stated as a "Future Upgrade" in the very own Native Instruments website.

    I see...

There was also something that I was worrying about...

What if I am using TSP on a laptop, and I want to upgrade to a Macbook? I have the chance to uninstall it and re-install it on the macbook right?

Is there a way to put TSP on a back up laptop? Does it have a limit how much times I can install the software on?

    Thanks!

I wouldn't bet my money on that just yet. Previous sales for Traktor software have been just before the release of Duo-line and around the release of Kontrol X1 (unless I've missed some promotional sale) ... even so, the users of TP/TSP have still gotten recent updates for free.

To sum it up - there has been no official word to either end (whether upcoming versions are paid updates or not), so it might go either way.

The license allows you to install the software on two distinct computers (this does not apply for the educational license, though), so yes - you can have a "backup" machine.

    Great!

Even if there was a paid update for TSP.. how much is it usually?

I know.. this is way more than 7 questions. But I really appreciate your help guys.

Hard to say, since during the lifespan of TSP there has been no paid update yet ;)

The closest we can postulate are the prices for the crossgrade (from Traktor 3 to Traktor Scratch Pro), which is 499 euros, Traktor certified upgrade (for owners of "certified" hardware), which is 299 euros, and the DUO-to-PRO upgrade, which is 69 euros. Nothing too solid, but gives a sort of "range".

Edit: it should be noted that the crossgrade offer contains the Audio 8 interface, and that is the main reason the price appears so high (also, it looks like currently the crossgrade is on sale for 299 euros).

    Interesting.

I was browsing through the forums.. and I've seen alot of stuff.

Audio 8 DJ @ 2ms ---> Does this mean we can set the latency on TSP.. depending on the performance specs of our laptops?

The laptop that I currently have isn't the greatest. 4GB RAM... Intel Pentium Dual-Core.. etc. Will this stop me from performing advanced scratching and beat juggling? I'm a bit of a turntablist...

    Thanks!

ALSO. Is keylock available with timecode control? I'm seeing things where it is not...

Latency is modifiable. I personally usually run with 2ms (I'm on an almost two years old MacBook with 4GB of memory), but I could go even as low as 1ms - I just have never really felt the need to do that. As far as I can tell, anything under 4ms is fair game for the illusion of "instantaneous" feedback (and you can do some routines with even larger latencies).

Those specs should prove to have no problems with scratching and even the most advanced routines imaginable. MacOS has a bit better driver structure, and can squeeze a bit more out of comparable spec machine than Windows, but all-in-all, both should work pretty well.

Keylock is available under timecode control. Some people don't like how the keylock sounds and avoid using it, but this depends very much on the person - for me personally it sounds a lot better than any of the competition I have heard thus far.

All keylock algorithms produce some amount of distortion; others on the transients, others on the stereo image, others in some other field. Other people are more prone to distortions in some field (and might completely ignore other fields). As said, on my opinion, Traktor's keylock is extreamely good as an "overall solution"; sometimes it might leave something to be desired, but not too often.

    Here are some other points,

There is a SSL hotkey file in the sticky section, so you don't have to re-learn a bunch of shortcuts.

There is SSL database migration tool, to make it easier to get your collection from SSL into Traktor. There has been some features requested for the import tool to improve the migration of SSL 'crate' structures.

In the SSL hotkey, loop roll emulation has been mapped and there is an explanation on how to setup you FX panel #2 so it works correctly.

    Thats FANTASTIC!

I was also wondering if you can use 2 turntables to control 4 decks (not at the same time obviously), but is there a way to kind of.. 'toggle' timecode control on the deck you want?

Yes, with a suitable keyboard/controller mapping (just because you need to have some things set up in order to be able to change the "timecode target" on the fly). And it takes a good deal of getting used to :)

I made a "proof-of-concept"-video about a year ago of such a setup. Before watching, normal warnings (since I've had so many dope comments on the video) ... the video is, as said, a proof-of-concept; it is not about mixing at any rate (which would've been pretty impossible seeing that I didn't have a mixer connected, and the turntable was under repair at the time the video was shot; in fact, there were no screws on the whole player - even the tonearm is kept in place by its own weight).

Anyway - here's the video and details regarding the keyboard mapping used
