80s Drummer has no gate channels in mixer section like 80s Drums  Or I'm blind? There is compressed OH channels instead.

Funny - there is gate sounds in demo tracks (solo - hard road / solo bleedin space...)
Is it time to uprade demos?

The gate kit or effect doesnt load with the new update, You only get 2 kits with a lite version for both.

That sucks, the gate is a big part of the 80's version ! maybe they will update the update ?

Yes, I need the gate channels also. It was the main reason I bought 80s Drums.

It seems strange NI would remove a feature in an UPdate...?

Just installed 80s Drummer, and was wondering the same thing. After some inspection, it looks like the samples are the same, and the "gate" effect in the old version was created from the compressed OH channels by just cutting them on the fly with volume curves. Funnily enough, the compressed OH channel groups are still named "Gate this" and "Gate that", although they don't really have anything to do with gates in the new version. :)

Anyway, it shouldn't be too difficult to add the same feature to the new Drummer. If you feel adventurous, you can even try implementing the "gating" effect by yourself. Just add a simple AHD curve to the "Gate ..." groups and adjust hold & decay to liking. I think you must also do the same to some other groups, but right now I'm too lazy to investigate this any further... after all, messing with the instruments' low level settings to make them work properly shouldn't really be our task.

The famous gate was also for me one of the main reasons I got the 80s drum kit. NI, please add the gate to the Drummer version too. And while you are at it, why not make the gate length adjustable (since it's not printed into the samples)?

I have had the chance to check out 80s Drummer at my friend's place.

The "Gate" groups are still there. And they do get played along with the other layers. "CMP" channels in the mixer seem to be related to what was previously known as "Gate" channels.

Talk about wasting away a BRILLIANT feature!
I mean.. the gates makes for 90 percent of that 80's sound. Without them, well they're just "generic drums".

All in all, if NI don't bring the gates back in an update they may as well scratch the numbers "80" out of the product name.

JetAirliner, please read the second paragraph of my post before yours. Gate channels are still in there and working, they just got renamed to CMP.

Thanks Dragon, i actually did read your post but i'm still pissed, curious about how to send each drum to the gate, and how to set gate times individually, which was a breeze in 80's drums.

Yeah, that functionality is not there...
