Exactly like the thread title says I would like to see a device that creates feedback.

Something like this needs to do more than sustain into feedback. True feedback is interactive and responsive. Just sustaining notes until they develop a feedback pitch with an identical growth curve is unrealistic and redundant (the downside of the Softube Acoustic Feedback VST). Either it has to work with an expression pedal or it has to interact with another physical device like a microphone or something like an EBow. The ability to experience true feedback characteristics at low volume and even in a non-open space environment like playing guitar into headphones is quite desirable.

even with an expression pedal there's only so much you could do to make it sound more live. however there are devices like the sustainiac or fernandez sustainer that provide real feed back into your guitar strings using the neck pickup. you can even do this totally acoustically without an amp involved which is like some sort of black magic :)

i have a sustainiac in one of my guitars, and i'm considering hooking others up too.

I disagree with this. Of course acknowledging that nothing virtual is going to be perfectly consistent with the feedback produced in a physical environment using physical gear, I don't think there is such limitation to discourage and I do feel enough can be programmed into the effect if using an expression pedal or some other hands-free hardware. Can you provide a description of what you had in mind?

I am thinking that as you increase expression, (through a pedal or other hands-free hardware), the tone could be designed to bloom from a gradual harmonic note to full screeching feedback as it would behave in a physical gear setting. The techniques required of the user to produce feedback that sounded natural would have to be unique. However it is nothing that could not be developed through experimentation.

With the software only device mentioned earlier it lacks variety and an ability to influence the behavior on the fly. Everything is reproduced following an identical pattern.....very unnatural and uncharacteristic of feedback. The player needs a way to interact with the effect and the result needs to remain within the boundaries of true feedback character.

aye, there's a certain amount that you can get with adjusting how much it's feeding back into itself, but the original note on the guitar string is going to be fading away, so you can't influence the feedback there with bends or slides or anything like you can when something is physically feeding back energy to the string.

i don't want to sound like i'm bashing the idea and saying NI shouldn't do something - more unique features is always good and this would be more welcome than yet another slightly modified plexi head sim ;) - just pointing out options to people who may not be aware of other such feedbacky devices :)
