Getting started with LPX on an M1 Mac. All I wanted was to be introduced to the Komplete Start kit for some basic sounds and instruments from N-I. I dutifully dl'd Native Access, dl'd Komplete Kontrol, Guitar Rig Player, Kontakt 6 Player, Supercharger, and Expansions Selection according to instructions. Before launching LPX, according to instructions, I opened Komplete Kontrol and noticed how it scanned ALL my AU/VSTs (without giving me a choice). OK, I thought, that's just what it does. I made no changes from the stock standard installation process. But, after that finished, the only Instruments (Types, Character) that show up in KK are 3 that are non-NI. The Loops and Sounds are all NI, but unorganized, and when double-clicked only show up as wav audio files.

But what I was expecting was what I'm seeing on the "How to Use KOMPLETE START with Logic | Native Instruments" video.
OK, I thought, let me do like the dude in the video and open up Kontakt Player in LPX as a plugin. But again, his player shows up with what he calls "The three Kontakt libraries that I installed, Kinetic Treats, Kontakt Factory Selection, and Kontakt Play Series Selection". There was no explanation for how those libraries got into KP, they're just there.

Didn't I just spend the better part of an hour doing that (and confirmed the installation in Native Access)?

If I load up Kontakt Instrument (VST3) from the dropdown menu, I get a small icon with a big banner that says "Kontakt 6 No instruments loaded"
If I load up Reaktor Instrument (VST) from the dropdown menu, I get another small icon with "Welcome to REAKTOR 6. What would you like to do? Play. Patch. Build."

Why am I not seeing any NI instruments in KP like the guy in the video for Komplete Start? The sounds and loops are there, but not organized into instruments.

I must be missing some piece of crucial information. Please enlighten me?

If you are loading Kontakt inside of Komplete Kontrol, click the down arrow at the top and select “View” -> “Edit View” and you should see the Kontakt Browser with the instruments you downloaded listed, you can load from there, but you should also see NKS presets for those libraries in the KK browser. If on the Instruments tab, if you click All Instruments” you should see icons for the individual libraries you downloaded.

Thanks, but...nope. Still not seeing any Instruments, or NKS presets. KPlayer appears as a shell, but with nothing in it. All the Instruments that KK provides Types and Characters keywords in the Library for don't reference NI products. They all point toward other plugin products that got scanned by KK. (I can tell b/c I've ticked the Info box at the bottom of the Library pane in KK, and it shows me the Vendor for every patch I click on). Presumably, clicking "Load..." in the upper right of KPlayer should help me Load an instrument, but where am I navigating to? I can see the NI folder structure in Documents that appears to be something that I can Load, but these are empty and seem to be destinations for saving customized Presets, FX chains, and the like. Navigating to Application Support>Native Instruments directory likewise shows installed files, but nothing that loads up an actual instrument.

So, I'm still without NI instrumentation, even as Native Access tells me everything appears installed. Thank you, though, for your suggestions. If you can think of anything else, do let me know... Thomas

First, are you looking at the user browser or factory browser? there is a little "person" icon at the top right of the KK browser, try clicking that to see if anything shows up. Also, have you tried opening Kontakt Player Standalone? that should show you the instruments installed. Start there, and report back if the KP browser is empty...

OK, I seem to have 'broken the code'. After using Native Access to dl everything else (about half of NI's library of titles listed in Native Access) that I hadn't already dl'd, I opened up KK again, and clicked on something (a patch, I think?) that suddenly brought up a Library for the first time, and in short order I had that opened up in KPlayer, along with the rest of the instruments the guy in the video had loaded up. Maybe the stuff was there all along? Idk. But at least I seem to have gotten up and running. Thanks, Blindeddie
