    Hiya all!

Just have got a Push 2 and have decided to integrate it seamlessly integrate them together for great workflow. In order to do that I have created a template, which will enable any of you guys who have MK3/ Studio/ +- Jam, use both machines to their full potential. The session file is attached below.

    Drums Maschine Instance

First things first, I created a group, containing of Maschine 2 VST and a Drum Rack. All 16 pads were mapped in Maschine VST to Host 1-16 MIDI inputs. Drum rack was populated with 16 instances of External Devices and MIDI outputs were mapped to Maschine 1-16 accordingly. All of the pads were colour coded according to Maschine pad colours, which are set by the plugin, if you enable “Load With Colours” and set Sounds to “Auto” in VST preferences. Now you can program drums on Push with ease like with any other Drum Rack.
P.S. If you want to play any pad from the group as a melody, create a new MIDI channel in Ableton from Push 2 and route the output to the desired pad, for instance Instrument Rack/ Maschine 2/ 10-Maschine 2

    Instruments Maschine Instance

Second of all, I have created 8 empty MIDI A to H channels and another instance of Maschine VST for any instruments I would like to use and mapped MIDI inputs and outputs accordingly.

    Automation

To automate any parameter with any Maschine controller, select your parameter in the VST plugin and set it to Host automation. Now record the automation to any clip in Session view or in Arrangement view. (Note: for instruments you have to either record enable Inst Maschine Auto channel and the desired MIDI channel or do it separately. (P.S. Midi input on Inst Maschine Automation channel is set to computer keyboard, so disable it by pressing “M” on the keyboard in order to avoid any accidents)).

I will still be developing and upgrading the template in the future, so if you have any ideas, I am more than open to them.

That's an interesting setup but you're over-complicating things a little in the first examples. See; with the instrument rack example you're sending MIDI into both the Maschine VST and the drumrack which is then also sending MIDI into the VST. That's likely to cause unwanted effects because the Maschine VST itself is also quite capable of processing incoming MIDI on its own.

Maybe this can be of some use to you... I recently wrote a guide on the Abes forum on how to play Maschine from the Push and the other way around. You don't need 16 external instrument devices, only one Scale MIDI effect.. See here:

And slightly offtopic but congrats with the Push.. As i mentioned elsewhere I think it's one heck of a combination and you can do an awesome amount of stuff with both Live and Maschine this way, most of which straight from behind the controllers themselves.

Cheers mate, appreciate your input! Regarding my template, nothing is send to Maschine VST in terms of midi from Push 2, because it first goes to the Drum Rack and only after that ext. instances send midi to Maschine, so nothing gets doubled! I have reduced the key range of Maschine to G8-G8, a note which is basically never played! key range.jpg I really like when things are clean and neat, and colour codes are shared.
