I also contacted Tech Support again to see if there was any update.

They effectively told me 'no', and there's no estimate for a fix.

What my main problem is the lack of communication and accountability from NI. I think we all understand that bugs like this occur in software / hardware from time-to-time.

But just keep us informed about what is going on. We just want to know that it will be sorted and an estimate of when.

Glad I found this thread, thought I was doing something wrong. My Maschine arrived a couple of days ago, works perfectly in standalone mode, but I'm also encountering the problem with the Ableton template. Initially I thought I must of been unpacking the remote scripts incorrectly, but after reading this its seems Im not alone.....

Thanks Johnny, good to know that not only people with older hardware are experiencing this issue. I can't believe NI's terrible response to this issue and total lack of care for their customers. Truly embarrassing.

I have been following this issue since it has started, I sent my crashlogs in and the inky response is that " we know its a bug and we are working to resolve this"... I've tried everything from Killing the NIHARDWAREAGENT in Activity Monitor to downgrading to lower versions if Maschine and still no success... I definitely share alotbof the frustrations w/ most of the users here as I too purchased the Maschine for the fact of the Midi control use w/ Ableton... Native Instruments please, please, please Fix this!

@Sowari you say that you have mo issues w/ your Mac? I'm curious what settings do u have set in Machine/Ableton/Mac?

Yeah, it's definitely not just Ableton.

And it's not the hardware either - it works fine under Windows 7 using the same version of Ableton, and the same Ableton test session (using no plugins to try and narrow down the issue).

I will eventually get around to making this promised video demonstrating this issue, but snowed under with work and study at the moment.

And Native Instruments indeed say they're 'aware' of the problem - they never asked me for more information so the must be confident that they know what's going on.

I just wish they'd tell us where things are at...

in terms of Massive, did you use the Controller Editor Massive Template?

same with Traktor, were you using a Template?

as for the others, what Template did you have active in the Maschine Controller?

There seems to be nothing consistent for anyone experiencing this problem, Sowari. MIDI output is erratic no matter which template is used (I've used the NI templates, other users custom templates, and my own from scratch.) And it seems the problem exists across DAWS - I use Cubase, Ableton & Traktor all with the same result. It suddenly came right for me, until I was literally about to start a live set and I spent 15 minutes restarting everything from my machine to my software to my sound card while the previous DJ had to keep playing. Frustrating and embarrassing to say the least. De-selecting then re-selecting my MIDI input SOMETIMES works, unplugging then re-plugging the USB SOMETIMES works. Also experienced a loss of MIDI output from a few random buttons and knobs, which was only rectified by re-mapping those - even though the mapping in the template had not changed.

I haven't touched the Maschine since, which is a pity but also like smashing my head into a wall. And completely not worth the risk of failure at a show. I'm told there is a new hardware unit coming pretty soon (apparently just better LEDs, bigger display, etc), and that the new software will apply to the current models as well... I hope there's a fix in there.

Ive crashed the maschine midi side millions of times, Im writing an app for traktor/maschine, it seems if you send too many midi packets to quickly, the driver gives up. I guess its the driver. I am testing builds of my app and have crashed it many many times.

I use osx, it crashes with snow leopard, lion and now mountain lion.

You can get it working again by going into audio midi setup, unplugging the maschine, deleting the maschine controller from audio midi setup and then plug the maschine back in again.

Its quicker than rebooting and works nearly every time.

    Hope it helps

I did some testing on this, and it seems like my formerly non functioning maschine (in midi mode) seems to work now after i deleted all other NI USB controller drivers (the X1 and S4 UBS Drivers were installed on my system) with the unistaller app that can be found here in this thread.

I use controller editor 1.4.2, Maschine driver 2.4.21 and OSX 10.7.4

hope this helps for other as well..

it would be good to get really specific here.

have you ever had peoblems just using the default template in the Controller Editor, just to play MIDI instruments in Cubase and Ableton.

or are your problems connected with using other specific templates?

in some ways NI can't test third party templates but their own should work with Traktor and Ableton without problems.

can you expand on some details about your live set - could you give details about what Templates you are using and which software?

    cheers

Just to chuck in my 2 cents,

I have used both the Ableton default template in Controller Editor and my own custom made Ableton Controller Editor template. I didnt like the ableton default template after a few hours of use so I made my own.

My custom made template worked fine for a day or 2 then the controller stopped responding out of know where.
The maschine controller was still recognized in the Ableton Midi/Sync Preferences, It was selected in the "control surface" section and recognized in the "inputs and outputs" etc, but the when i hit pads, turned knobs nothing would respond in ableton (even when these knobs and buttons were still midi assigned) and I obviously couldnt assign any new midi mappings with ableton.

As my custom template was no longer working I deleted it out of the controller editor and gave the Controller Editor Ableton default one another try and now that default template didnt work, once again the Controller was all still recognized in the Midi/Sync preferences and set up correctly but the pads and knobs just werent responding in Ableton. I tryed refreshing ableton and the controller editor and i also tryed restarting my computer but to no prevail.

This was with all latest Maschine/ controller editor updates, Mac OSX lion 10.7.4.

Hope this shiz gets sorted soon anyway.

some good tips here that might help

    could you guys try this:

    and

creating a new configuration can solve problems with multiple MIDI Drivers. i get the feeling that loads of drivers can sometimes affect the driver you want to use, and creating a New Configuration and rescanning can solve this.

I already tried all methods I have read in this forum including keeping the controller editor open and having two configurations in the audio midi setup... useless. When my maschine freezes I have to unplug it, then delete the device in the audio midi setup and then plug it again. It works again but after some time it freezes.

I am very disappointed because this was the main reason why I bought a maschine. I wanted to have "the perfect midi controller" in conjunction with a great sequencer. But it´s not perfect, it doesn´t even work as a professional midi controller but more like a DEMO midi controller which stops working after 10 minutes (or less).

    Please NI fix this bug!

PD: thanks for trying to help sowari.

sowari, I stated in a previous post to this topic that I am experiencing the exact same problem in Traktor Pro 2/2.5!

It's been happening less since I've upgraded to 2.5 but my controller will still drop out! This is the most annoying issue as I use Maschine to control Traktor and when it drops out, it can cause a potential trainwreck and ruin the night!

I would not consider performing live with this unit until the issue is sorted out and I have advised others to stay clear until the bug is ironed out. It's not reliable for live situations and this is terrible!

This should be the #1 concern right now for the Maschine developers, not a new "mk II"...

I have deleted my tsi's/midi settings and have reimported/reinstalled Traktor to no avail. The only way to correct this issue is by unplugging and replugging the usb cable, which may or may not last for an extended amount of time until I'll have to unplug it and plug it back in again.

please could you be specific about which Traktor Template you are using in Maschine and which RSI you are loading in Maschinne.

Totally agree with that. How can they release the mkII when the first maschine is not working as intended? #fail

I hope there is a better driver for the maschine 1, I dont need the colors. Looks nice but how it works is more important.
i like the stand alot though

They're going to release a new Maschine when the first one can't even work as a MIDI controller properly? Really?

    @Sowari
Again, I don't want to sound like I'm repeating myself but I've made my own custom template as well as used the Ableton Template and even a modified Ableton Template, not to mention the mackie template some people suggested. I've tried running the controller editor, and not running the controller editor, opening it before and after. It has nothing to do with that. Maschine freezes when it's put into MIDI mode, period. Even unplugging and resetting it will only return partial functionality.
I spent so much money on this thing for live shows and have only used it one time, in which it froze about 20 minutes into my performance and unplugging and resetting it still made me lose some mappings and the lights no longer matched the clip scenes. I used to teach a class on MIDI so I know my way around devices like this pretty well and I can say with 100% certainty that everything is setup correctly. The reason I know its not user error is because the bug happens regardless of what I do. I can check every knob and everything works fine and after about 10 minutes the unit just freezes, even if I'm not touching anything!

Thanks for trying to help and sorry if some of use seem a bit short. Not trying to. Just extremely frustrated because even when I submit error logs I get emails that say things like, try reinstalling Maschine, or try opening your controller editor, or make sure you have Maschine selected as your MIDI controller as if these things weren't overtly obvious. I even sent a link to this thread and was advised to reinstall Maschine! Only one reply so far has told me it's a confirmed bug and they know about it.

maybe it is the Controller Driver not the Controller?

fwiw Ni are not abandoning the first Controllers either in terms of working with the Maschine Software or as a MIDI Controller.
