Ableton is so much better for mixing than Traktor, just got my copy couple days ago and it seems like mixing, manipilating and warping tracks with Ableton are endless.
This software is amazing to me so far,Traktor is nothing like it,it's not even close when it comes to mixing tracks and I have so much more to learn.

Please try the demo version and you will see the light.

This is something i deal with also the last days...
harder to learn and operate, but within two or three days of work, you can do magic...especially when investing to a controller or mixer[with ableton's 2 much stuff is needed..]
abletoners are just doing gigs and battles, and trakters keep on trying to find out why this thing doesnt work as it should..
    :(

"Battles" with Ableton or Traktor? What exactally would you be battling? Who can make the most precise beat grids or set the best warp markers? Who can press the sync button the fastest?

There is no "light" to see. Traktor and Live are no more related than Acid and ProTools. They accomplish what they do in drastically different ways, and their workflow is completely different. And lots of DJs use them both.

glad to know your opinion, for me its not. don't get me wrong ableton 5 is a great program which i do use daily but from a performance issue i beg to differ. this is of course "my opinion", but unless you are willing to set up your sets prior to playing ableton would not be able to play on the fly as traktor does. i use ableton 5 when i'm playing out to play tracks of my own which i leave open in aprox 8 audio tracks(aprox 4 loops each). i midi sync it to my scratchamp and line into a third audio channel on my mixer. then when it comes time to play, i can remix the track to my liking on the fly playing which ever loop i wish to trigger. i use traktor however far more cause its main purpose is to dj. it alows me to drop anywhere in the song cue up in an instant and its integration with finalscratch makes it indespensable for me.

i've done loop wars with both acid and ableton live.....ableton live is the winner there.

a thought : maybe the 'fast-load and mix' traktor pays the cost of bugs and effectiveness ...
maybe the perfect solution is somewhere in the middle...!

i'm going to have to agree. as far as audio engines go, ableton 5 is lacking big time. on live 4 i could drop tracks like crazy all day and never have any audio skips, but 5 has given me a lot of problems.however, ill give them a few more months to post some updates and bug fixes.

on the other hand, the above statement is right in the sense that you cant compare the two programs. ableton live is great for composing and its a great real time based software, but as far as straight djing goes, i would prefer Traktor to ableton. Traktor is a lot more solid and straight foward. i would trust Traktor ALONE on my laptop sync'd up to some midi hardware before id use ableton, which is prob going to happen in the coming months...

    <sigh...>
This discussion is like the MAC versus PC debate. The two products have different values for different people and for different reasons. I own Live, I own Traktor I use both. I use it differently to others here. Use what works for you... its tiring and strangely amusing though to see newbs troll in from places unknown with the same argument presumably with the same intent time and time again... People get upset and the newbs stroll off mission accomplished.

The timing of the comments are interesting given yesterdays news on the forums and I would question the underlying motive of the author...

As Nemonic said there is no special light to see, Use what works for you in ways that work for you.... MAKE MUSIC...!!!

I use both, and enjoy both. Aside from the style differences (for which I could write pages), the technical difference is that Traktor has WAY less system overhead. I run Traktor on a P3 laptop quite smoothly, while Ableton 5 now even makes the studio desktop system bog down when loading tracks.

I use Live for more production-related tasks, I use Traktor for more performance-related tasks.

Discussions like this should be tacked onto Traktor-vs.-vinyl: you're in a Traktor forum. Anyone bringing up this topic is just looking to start a scuffle. :)
