Ableton / Kontrol integration setup is ridiculous

What in the world is up with this?

I plugged my Novation 49 in and it 'just worked'.

I need to copy files from App support into the Apps hidden directory? That is insane... Write a installer or something for goodness sake. For a controller that costs as much as it does, this is the instruction / setup of this thing is an aweful user experience and lazy on NI's part.

And also, I've followed all the instructions and I'm not seeing Kontrol as an option in Live when selecting a controller for a midi track. Why do I need the instrument rack? The article gives instruction on what to do but doesn't explain why?

EDIT: Ok it appears I "need" and instrument rack in Live to even use this as controller.. man this is just disappointing. They hardware on this keyboard is awesome.. but this is just unusable. For these combined reasons I've decided to return this keyboard.

This is the first NI purchase I've made. So far very unhappy with it. It appears tech support for NI is pretty lousy too..

Thank you for your post. We are currently working directly with Ableton to improve the setup process and stability of the integration between S-Series MK2 keyboards and Live. This will remove the need to use the Instrument Rack (Komplete Kontrol VST.adg), and auto-select the keyboard as a Control Surface in Live so that no manual deployment of files or preference configuration is required (as is the case with A-Series keyboards).

So, if I check out an A-series right now, this is how the S88mk2 will behave in Ableton in the near future ??
(and less impact on CPU-use ?)

 

If not fixing it soon, in the `setup tutorial` at least say something like...

Hey new user, when using Ableton with Kontrol you need to use a rack.. the reason is because XYZ. You also need to move some files around in the app hidden folder, this is because XYZ.

The article skips all this and just starts giving instructions on how to move Systems Lib files into a the apps hidden folders with no context or reasoning explained.

I unboxed the Kontrol, which had no manual. And this tutorial was what I was greeted with as a first impression. Not very good..

 

Up until now this exact procedure had to be done with every update of KK. Consider yourself fortunate that you may not be doing this anymore after the update that will fix this…
