I'll add this thread here, however, it could just as easily be attributed to all NI instruments.

I use Ableton Live as my host of choice. Many users will understand its implementation of user scripting, which allows (to some degree) the user to map any controller to various parameters inside Live.

Once this is set up, a blue hand appears on your chosen instrument, so you can visually see what you're controlling. This is great stuff and has really helped me carve out my own sound.

Would it be possible for NI to implement something similar for how their instruments work within Live?

Say I selected an envelope on Massive.....it would be most handy were the envelope parameters immediately mapped to my controller.

I would love to step through all the various sections of my instruments and edit them this way, rather than make up X amount of templates on my controller for each and every instrument.

I know my controller doesn't have enough templates to do this anyway, so would be best if this were a collaborative project between Ableton and NI.

To be honest, both parties need to do some extra work on mapping, though Ableton can only really improve their side with the help from the VST makers.

It's been ages since I tried out other DAWs, so unsure how this relates to them but as far as I know, Ableton are the only ones who have approached this subject with any degree of success.

Perhaps something's already in the pipeline and I really hope this is the case, as it's things like this that allow the user to really get the best from these products and will go a hugely long way to opening up synthesis and sound design to more and more people.

Here's hoping the NI coders are reading. Make my day punks!

So I use the apc40 as a way to get around in ableton and I read this and decided if I could replace your trouble. After I tested the apc I plugged in my trigger finger and then my axium49. And I don’t have any problem with this at all.

I don’t have any trouble with this. Im using ableton 8.1.4 right now. And when you load up a plugin into a channel you get the funny little x-y box right. All you do is click the configure button on the box and then click any parameter in your plugin to have the control set into the live plugin window.

And then when you click on the plugin in live and get the little blue hand on it then the knobs auto map right to the parameters that you have setup.

For me this works really well because I really cant stand the way ableton auto maps things , it just seems to pick parameter out of a hat in no real order so I place most things in racks so I can program just what I want to the auto map knobs.
