But if you're gonna plug a keyboard into Maschine, you might as well just use a DAW. It's one of the reasons Maschine is just a big multi-timbral VST to me. I play my chromatic parts, and I don't like playing on the Maschine.

The Push really is a step closer to staying on the hardware. Really smart.

That is a seriously bad comparison.... your analogy is like saying the Traktor S4 does not have built in Songs. :)

Push Controls Live... Live supports huge numbers of midi ports, ie hundreds of channels...
maschine controller controls maschine..and no matter how many midi ports you have attached you are stuck at 16 midi channels

you make some good points...Ive no real reason to think that a new controller would be introduced with V2, but Id have liked it...until I saw this

I also dont think that this makes maschine redundant for Live users...just perhaps for me a bit, and others like me that solely use maschine as a plugin..the hardware becomes more of a midi controller for me and Push will likely make this redundant too within Live (dunno how itll play with other DAWS that I use).

But, and this is a big but, maschine is at a totally different price point, it seems the have no intention of really expanding the arrangement part of the program, and this may be to its benefit..Ableton is huge in comparison, and that instantaneous sketch ability will always appeal to users, just not really me

they are different enough to work together, and I find the kits on maschine excellent quality..if they keep adding to the expansions so will I...but for roughly the price of MKII Ill get Live 9, Max4live, and the push controller...thats some face aching grins ;)

it also says bye bye to any intention of adding a ren or studio to my set up...

I was hung up on crappy automation.. the new features in live 9 almost bring it up to Sonar but will wait to see if it is equal/better but this could be an interesting alternative...
but i would need to let Maschine go to adopt this.. and Maschine as a drum machine inside of Sonar is a great workflow for me right now...

Is this sarcasm? Maschine has had pressure sensitive note repeat since day one. Its in their promo video from when they released it.

Have you checked their vids? The pressure controls the freq on the repeats ( faster / slower ).

Edit: gave the vids a closer look, aaaand no it doesnt control the freq of the repeats. I was wrong!
    Sorry bout that

For those that are wondering, the release date for Live 9 and Push is 1st quarter 2013. At least that's the info Guitar Center gave me.

    It has Bitwig colors!

First new and useful thing from Ableton in a long time.

Like everything else, we have to wait and see how well they implement the controller. It still runs live so if you don't like Live then this won't change anything. If you already like Live then this may wind up being just your thing. I never could get with Ableton workflow personally. It was close but not me. The controller looks nice but I personally prefer full size pads vs. a ton of tinny ones. They are great for triggering clips but not for playing.

If it handles MIDI well, this may finally be THE replacement for KORE. Maschine doesn't have the functionality or flexibility of KORE. I love NI but I don't like that they abandoned KORE.

I think NI stopped Kore to let them work on Maschine 2.0
so probably we will see more Kore in Maschine 2.0

Seems to be something either Ableton or it's user base doesn't get.
You always see users using a MPD or just programming from a keyboard.

I tend to create my clips in other devices or with other devices so launching with clips with the APC works for me.

I hope you are right. I still use Kore in my band. The sounds in Komplete are simplly awesome. Even the electric pianos are better than my Yamaha Motif Rack. Besides, I am so invested with the sets and presets that it would take months to reprogram and debug for another performance-ready solution. I am not willing to go through that exercise so soon.

i am looking forward to to Live 9 but i am expecting someone to come up with a 'Push' style patch for Lemur - so i won't be buying Push. also, i have the Beatdown StepSequence patch for my APC 40.

NI need to improve on Automation for Maschine though, and i am very interested in the improvements to MIDI in Live 9, some very interesting features! NI definitely need to think about improving MIDI in Maschine.

Actually, that's perhaps not necessary a fail. It probably depends the angle of the unit and height of your desktop (or if you sit low).

Previously my hand was covering the Maschine LCD when I was using the knob but it was fine with the menu buttons (and if the knobs would have been on top).

Now I don't care, I have Maschine with side wood panels (and with little bit more angle) as well as a higher chair, it doesn't matter anymore and doesn't cover the screen at all, regardless if it's with both knob and menu button.

So I guess it depends everyone setup...

what was the reason bigwig left ableton?
I have no idea? Live 9 looks quite promising

NI, please make a deal with bitwig for better integration with machine!

You have to reach past the screen to use the knobs. So although you might be able to use it sitting down with your arms splayed, try it standing up whilst playing your 'instrument' live. Look at the publicity shots; lots of them show how easy it is to obscure the screens. I just think it's incredibly bad design, which could have been avoided if they'd put the knobs under the screens, like Maschine, or the Mackie Control units, or Rhizome, or anything really.

That aside, it's a smart looking machine.

I'm wondering if they'll post the MIDI Implementation Chart of that thing :D

So you know... we'll be able to duplicate it in Touch OSC or Lemur :D

I hear you... and I see what you mean.

I think it mainly depends your position (sit or stand up). I did simulate it with Maschine to see how it would be, and indeed we can find case where the arm/hand is covering the screen... But it's true for both bottom or top.

I think having knobs on the bottom is better is you're standing up while having knobs on the top is better when you're sitting down. (which could be indeed weird for Ableton "Live" which is dedicated for Live... therefor having a large percentage of chance to stand up).

We probably need to see in usage; Most of time we actually grab a knob from the side anyway, so it might not be a big deal...

I supposed that Ableton engineers are not completely stupid and they probably think about that well before us... Because if it was an issue they could have just simply inverse the screen and the knobs... There's definitely room for that.

So I guess they conclude it was OK to do so... When people will use it, we will figure out if they were right ... or not. For now, I give them the benefit of the doubt until I can have my hands on...

    My 2 cents...

Well, each to their own. I'm sitting down, and I can see the Maschine screen when I use the knobs. If they were at the top I'd be doing the funky chicken. I do have my Maschine elevated tho'.
