yes maschine is a better "groovebox"

and the day Ableton announces that Live and push are a groovebox too you can stand triumphant ;)

but they wont, and its not...so pad size, knob positions, and komplete integration dont really come into it..what next?

    - Push doesnt have gold knobs you can buy

    - Maschines orange is a better hue

    - Live doesnt come with Komplete Elements and a $50 evoucher towards an expansion

    :)

This comment suggests you don't know Maschine very well. If you're happy working within Live the way it is, stay with it.

And Maschine is not limited to 8 tracks. lol

"A MASCHINE Project has up to 128 sounds, split across 8 Groups, and each Group can contain up to 16 Sounds. There is no limit to the number of samples per instance, because each MASCHINE Sound has its own sample map, including key and velocity mapping. In traditional terms, this translates to 128 tracks per instance."

Maschine is not a "MPC clone". It is so much more than that.

From the design of the Push controller, it is more than obvious that it was Ableton/Akai's attempt at a response to Maschine.

well i for myself gave up on ableton live some time ago, since its limited editing capabilities (I went for cubase again a while ago).
Well this new controller makes me wanting to go for live again, but in a Push + Maschine Combination.

What Noiserot says is what I feel will be the focus in this comparison. Maschine really is best in terms, hands on hardware.
As I expect is to set a lot of stuff up in the software and then be able to do a lot of stuff with the hardware with Push, but I don't feel negative about it, because some complex stuff is better to do on the Computer with a mouse.
Another point, for me especially, is that I could work better with my VST-Synths since I cannot draw any automations into maschine like lines (which rise absolutely linear), exponentials or anything similar which I could edit afterwards in Live.
I think it's a great opportunity to unite both products to a great Live Setup.

You seem to be under the misimpression that NI invented midi controllers...

    my 2 cents.

for me it interesting how some slick videos can convince quite a sizable number of people that as new product is the best thing since sliced bread.

speaking personally, the naff music that Bitwig use has completely put me off their product whereas, Ableton always seem to grab my attention with their clever marketing and better taste in music.

also, speaking personally, i won't be spending that amount of money on yet another Controller that will force me to spend a lot of time learning a whole new way of playing chords and melodies.

as i teach Ableton, i have grown to appreciate its features more and more, and i am really looking forward to Live 9, especially the new MIDI features.

having said that, i am not being blinded by the slick, well made, well played videos that seem to have taken on board Apple's style when it comes to product launches, so i won't be purchasing Push - especially as i have have an iPad.

lets wait until Push is released before we get too excited - the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

finally, i am not sure that it is fare to compare Ableton with Maschine. yes their are certain similarities but an either/or comparison does not make sense to me. having said that, if i had a choice of Machine/Komplete or Ableton as my only desert island music making tool, i know which one i would choose. but in terms of my current day to day workflows, i will continue to enjoy using both of them.

    I disagree..

This is simply Ableton getting a larger slice of the pie that they currently enable... given both Akai & Novation have made millions of the back of Live, so it makes perfect strategic sense to create their own "launchpad plus" controller... adding additional features to this controller makes it the default standard for a Live controller tis all.

Ableton has no real need to "respond" to Maschine...they are simply vertically integrating to consume the controller market they enabled.

So true. I was thinking the same.

Although I work in the marketing field and I know how companies create lust for their customers (I'm a graphic designer) I tend to get lost in the hype generated by this kind of videos. I'm a total sucker.

I just sold the MPC 1k with JJOS to a dude that has no clue what it does (GREAT MACHINE!) to buy Maschine MK2, which I love and is awesome (my 3rd Maschine so far. Kept coming back. Must be a sign)... and after the MPC Ren came out.. I started drooling again, and searched Youtube like a maniac.

Now I got the chance to play in demo mode with the MPC app (Not so great so far, but promising)... and a couple of days ago... Ableton kicked in with Push. Drooling again - forgot about the REN. Stupid marketing hype.

Last night I've played with Maschine for a while, and it reminded me how cool it is, how good the software is and made me realise I am a marketing slave.

Anyway. They're all nice, but they make us lust about them and buy/sell/buy/sell and in the end we forget about the important stuff. Making music.

I remember when I started in the design business and I was lusting for a stupid midi keyboard that had velocity, and in the meantime I was making songs by placing notes in Cakewalk with the mouse. And... not in the piano roll... in the score view.

Now we're spoiled by these buttons, knobs & stuff, and we tend to forget our main goal. To make music.

PS: If you spend 10-20 minutes with the MK2 Ableton Live template, you realise you can already do with Maschine in Live what Push does. It has EXACTLY the same flow as APC40, + PAD SCALES. Year you heard me right. PAD SCALES, with colors & ****.

So true. The number of people ready to jump ship is shameful.. they haven't seen or used the other product yet and they are already shouting all over the web how superior it is to Maschine.

As a long time Live user (since v2), I am pretty excited about some of the new stuff in Live 9. As for Push, it looks good and it is a nice addition, but IMO it's not the game changer it is made up to be. Apart from navigating presets and selecting sounds on it (which seems limited to Live native devices or pre-saved racks), there is nothing there that could not be done already with a LaunchPad and some clever remote scripts (i.e. nativekontrol)

Regardless, I am sure by the time Live 9 and Push are out, we'll be hearing more about Maschine 2.0 and that should put things back in perspective for a lot of us, I hope.....
