    Hey René,
you're right, the ucrtbase thing is more a symptom than a cause. Actually it's funny that you mention the Windows user account. Are there any special characters in the user name where Absynth & FM8 crash ? In this case special character would also be any letter with an accent. If you don't want to post your Windows user name publicly, you can send it to me by direct message. One of my colleagues found out that most of the users that contacted us have accents or special characters in their names.

Hi, I have nothing to do with you or your toys :) but I read your forum because I had the same problem with ucrtbase in my application today. I found that my multibyte app has a problem with beta functionality in newer versions of Windows 10. You can try disable: "Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support".
    Start> Settings> Time & Language> “Date, time, & regional formatting ”>“ Additional date, time, & region settings ”> Region> Administrative> Change system locale. (I have a non-Unicode language set to Czech, that's ok)
    Good luck.

Hello, I was having issues with Absynth 5 and FM8 and more all the same, I'm using an Asus Windows 10 laptop with an older Core i7 processor. I tried changing the Time & Language setting as prescribed, but the beta feature was already disabled. No go. Then I tried installing that C++ Runtime libraries mega pack posted in the previous page. No go. Then I tried enabling the beta feature in the Time & Language settings and now my synths are working. I just picked up Komplete 13 Standard, I'm running whatever latest versions I can get via Native Access at the time of this post.

Event Viewer shows that there's some kind of conflict with ucrtbase.dll in my system as well. Googling it shows that it is not uncommon for programs to suffer crashes when involved with the file.

Hey valerianmengsk, in some cases, enabling this feature when it was disabled fixes the issue. Can you try and let us know ?

I had the same problem with Absynth 5 and FM8 and can confirm that enabling the Windows 10 Time & Language feature seems to have fixed the problem with both. I'm happy to report that I can use both synths in standalone mode, in Komplete Kontrol and in FL Studio. Looking forward to exploring these and making music with them!

NB: I too have a Windows User folder with a special character (é) in it.

UPDATE: Enabling Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support actually solved the issue for me as well! Happy days :D

ORIGINAL MESSAGE: I'll jump in and inform that I have the same issue. Win 10 Pro, Version 21H1. Issue appeared recently for me and now I can't open my Reaper projects containing Absynth 5.3.4 or the standalone version. Tried creating another account on my computer and as previously mentioned this solved the issue ON THAT account, not the Admin one.

Tried clearing Absynth from RegEdit and AppData before uninstalling it via Control Panel. Rebooted computer, installed through NA, rebooted again, rescanned all plugins in Reaper but issue remains.

Very frustrating not being able to access several of my projects that I'm working on. Hoping a solution will come soon! :(

I just did in the message that you quoted, hahahaha

Anyway, it is a bizarre bug, please ask the devs to fix the oddity. Most users encountering the same issue probably aren't going to google search solutions like some of us who wind up here, I think?

Enabling Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support make other program stop working so this is not a good solution. The program Recipe Keeper didn't start so I had to disable Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support.

Oh after update I don't have Absynth any more, I use win 7 because it is laptso I can be mobile but this update scared me so I won't update any more until it will be fixed. It is simply just don't install dll at all so I can hear the sounds in the Maschine but I can't use it. I'm feeling sad but again I believe that NI will fix it or at least I will go to previous version but I don't know how to do that

Uhh something is not right, I installed Absynth from download location and it is here but in update it sad that it will remove 32 bit version but it didn't. I will export projects and I won't even try FM8 update. I took a picture of Absynth now installed through download location file

Just reinstalled my whole system on fresh copy of Windows 11 and the same issue with Cubase, Reason, Bitwig and FL Studio : Absynth and FM8 can't load for some reason (VST2).

Are those synths only 32 bit or is there 64 bit version installed as well? If they are just 32 bit versions, most of the 64 bit DAWs might not load them (right?)?

Do you have some non-ansi characters in your User Folder-Name (C:\Users\your name) ?
    Like ä,ö,ü ?
If so, this could be causing the Issue. In my case it was so.

Totally - my user account is at "C:\Users\TommiGrönlund" which has scandinavian umlaut letter ö. Unfortunately that comes from the Azure AD and I personally don't know how to change that - same this btw was with docker some years ago (until they fixed it to work with unicode characters in profile path)

    Hey Tommi,
Have you tried this workaround ?

You can try disable: "Beta: Use UTF-8 for worldwide language support".
    Start> Settings> Time & Language> “Date, time, & regional formatting ”>“ Additional date, time, & region settings ”> Region> Administrative> Change system locale.

This actually solved the issue but introduced few others (mainly with JetBrains Toolbox) !

I also had the problem - Absynth and FM8 not working, although they had worked on a previous Windows 10 system. I now tried to install them via my old Komplete 10 harddrive - and voila, it works. So it is either a problem with the newer version or with native access.
