    Dear Absynth forum members,

I am not that active on fora, but please consider the following.

I very recently switched from a 32 bit to a 64 bit DAW system. My host, SONAR X1 x64, KONTAKT 4 (native 64 bit), and Kore 2 Player (32 bit bridged) work excellent. Great sound, great performance. But ...

... Absynth 5, my favorite NI synth (and also 64 bit), happens to act peculiar, after trying the sounds from e.g. Absynth Twilights and comparing them to Kore 2 Player (in the Kore 2 A field setting; same as the perform settings in Absynth). I also discovered that ''all '' sounds in Absynth 5 that use samples, are heavily distorted. E.g., I picked a patch with a sample in the A patch and swithed off B and C, and all other modulation and effect settings in order to isolated the bare sample. Playing the sound (bare sample) in Absynth 5 results in horror, in stand alone mode and as a plugin. To be sure I played the original sample in a media player, just to be sure. I uninstalled Absynth 5 completely, reinstalled, etc., to no avail.

As mentioned above, my system works very fine and crisp with all other software. My adio controller is NI's Audio Kontrol 1, working with the latest driver for 64 bit support. Absynth 5's version is 5.0.1.

What to do? Is this an issue related to 64 bit? And is it going to be resolved with the long awaited 5.0.2 update? Any suggestions?

    Thanks for considering a reply!

    Robin

Apparently it's a known issue that should be fixed in the next update. Let's just hope we get an ETA for that... After all, 10 months of beta testing should ensure that everything will work flawlessly ;)

    Thanks gravehill,
I found your other thread on this, with a reaction from ew. I also read a post from NI that the 5.0.2 update involves a MAC OS 64 bit support, among other bug fixes. I hope this applies applies to Windows 64 bit systems also (mine is Win 7 64 bit). I find it curious that not that many reports exist on this issue, which apparently is a bug indeed. The 64 bit user is truly growing, as I can estimate, and Absynth is a remarkable piece of software. It would be a serious step back in NI music production if Absynth is to be discontinued. However, for me personally, I am not planning to switch back to 32 bit. Also, the matter with Reaktor and Kore, still as 32 bit applications, needs to be updated in my view, and in that of many mnay others - referring to the many posts in the NI fora. A truly native 64 bit support for all NI engines would be the start of new, robust and creative soundscaping experience. Then ALL customers would be satisfied. Patience is OK of course, yet 10 months of beta testing is suspect ... Absynth 6 perhaps? Plus Reaktor 6, and Kore 2-64, all at once. Wishfull thinking or an educated guess? We'll see.

After installing Absynth 5 to its standard locations, it looks as if the distortion only applies to the Absynth Twilights samples. Not many users probably use AT in Absynth (the more in Kore 2), that's why there are not that many posts on this. However, it remains a serious issue.

If there are any Twilights users in Absynth 5 working in 64 bit, please reply if you encounter the same distortion in the samples.

    Cheers,
    Robin

I noticed that it not applies to all samples, but in most stereo samples, especially some very nice ones in the Absynth Twilights package (samples starting with 'bio' in their name for instance. The 5.0.2 update probably will solve for this.

I read somewhere that choosing asio drivers instead of my motu ones (asio istead of wasapi from absynths audio n midi settings) will solve this ...but theres no sound at all under asio drivers

So far, Absynth's native library has a minority of patches that uses samples. The sample patches use either stereo or mono samples. In case of stereo samples, there are no problems. The mono samples always work. There is however a native patch, called 'Basin Percs', that has a mono sample in Osc 3, called 'Devine Guitar 1.wav'. This mono sample fucntions well in the integrated sound. However, clicking the 'stereo' button next to the patch, (and e.g. isolating the patch by deleting the other oscillators and modulaters and such, for better distinction), the sound gets distorted. A 64 bit bug in my opinion. Using the native library as such, however, no problems. Playing with stereo samples, however, sometimes results in problems.

There is however a big problem when patches from Absynth Twilights and Absynth Spectral Expansion. are used. These patches use loads of samples, many of the stereo samples result in a distorted sound. In Kore 2 Player, however, all patches sound brilliantly. NI says that the two mentioned Absynth sound packages are for Kore 2 and for Absynth 5. This is not entirly true at the moment for Absynth 5 in a 64 bit environment. In a 32 bit environment everything works OK.

Using own stereo samples sometimes result in deviant behaviour and distortion, as regards the postings from @sampleconstruct in another thread.

Maybe some reader can check for him/herself. If you don't own the two mentioned sound packages, use the 'Basin Percs' patch available in Absynth 5 and try it. If you use a 64 bit OS that is.

I am also curious about users that have Absynth Twilights and Spectral Expansion.

    Cheers,
    Robin

I have W7/64 bit and an Audio Kontrol 1 audio interface. Unfortunately, NI is not that responsive to my mail request on this matter.

    EW,
That's good news. However, the link I got from NI for betatesting Absynth 5.0.2 brings me to a page with three betatesting links (Battery 3.2, Kontakt 4.2 and Absynth 5.0.2). The Absynth link is not highlighted and thus not linked. Do you (or anybody else reading this reply) happen to know an alternative link?

Try dumping your browser cache and try again. If it still doesn't work, post back and I'll ask someone to take a look at it.

However, if it's broken, it won't be fixed until tomorrow- the IT staff's in Germany, and it's 10:30 PM there.

Yes, the link was restored the other day and the update has fixed the distortion problem. Nice.
