    Yes....but...

Even if you try and pinpoint the time from release accurately at "4 and a half months", this is a case of "4 and a half months too many", if you ask me.

It still doesn't diminish the ridiculous situation whereby NI release a product, but don't actually deliver the full version....

Development is always welcome, and that can take time, agreed.
However, a "released" product assumes it exists in a standard from which it will be developed. The lack of RTAS support (in a product upgrade that was previously RTAS compatible) is a step in the wrong direction, and not worthy of a paid upgrade.

Companies shouldn't sell a "released version" and then develop the individual components 'as they go along' to a basic standard required by users.

nreyes,,this is all very true,,except for one very important point,,ABSYNTH has NEVER been an RTAS plug,,As AB 1 it was only ever DIRECT-CONNECT,,,
I'm a little pissed that i have had to wait this long for the RTAS plug,,my only consolation is that I have been assured that all of the bugs are being worked out for the VST up date, and that this work will be more than a little benificial to us RTAS users,
Untill then I'm using AB 2 inside PT right now using the MIDI PATCH BAY work arround discribed in a previouce thread,,works great,,except i cant seem to work out how to sync AB2 to MIDI clock through MPB,,

This workaround, though a good quick cheap way to record Absynth2 sounds on the PT sequencer, unfortunately could have the side effect of picking up unwanted noise through extra amplifiers and cables. Sending the digital audio signal out the D to A converter of the computer (16bit) to the Digi interface (say, the inputs of an Mbox (24bit max)), translating back to a digital signal through the A to D converter in the box..........etc........

The RTAS plugin would keep the audio in the digital domain (much more desirable).

Hopefully NI will have the plugin done soon. Until then, I guess 'analog' recording will have to do.

P.S. Anyone here know how to get the Direct Connect to work with PT5 and Absynth2 under Mac OS9?

It won't,,but if your on a mac you can get a free VSTi host called VSTUGLY,,do a search of the DUC over on the digi site,,try LEA MARBLE or Lone Roger or even just VST UGLY there are a couple of them out there,,they were made using MAX/MSP,,they are VSTi to D-C hosts,,i used VST UGLY under OS9 with PT 5 for ages and had few problems,,and i'm almost certain i read somplace that there was somthing simmiler for winows,,i could be wrong,,

    Thanks, Homebelly.
I'll try it. Until we get the RTAS driver... If now only someone were to make a VST to RTAS converter....(or Audio Unit to RTAS?)....... >;)

Well,,you know what?..thats coming to,,FXpansion is making a VST to RTAS,,and a VST to RE-WIRE plug,,both should be out by Xmas,,not sure if they will be OS9 compatable,,,
But i guess the race is on between AB2-RTAS or the VST to RTAS wrapper,,I'll be getting the wrapper any ways for all the free funky VST plugs and synths out there,,and yes it will host VST FX and be able to stream audio in and out,,There are a lot of very excited ProToolians chomping for this,,

I'm real excited about the VST to RTAS Adapter,,but lets not get to carried away just yet,,I emailed Angus with a bunch of questions one of wich was,,have you tested the adapter with N-I's synths,,and he reply'd that they had avoided them for the most part as they have the reputation of being a little buggie as VSTi's on OSX,,,they have a copy of AB2 and i have asked that they test it for me and let me know,,

lol! Perhaps you should consider another line of work! ;)

I'd love an RTAS version but in the meantime, if I could get it running in Digital Performer, I'd be happy.

well apparently you haven't noticed that they snuck in another increase on their deployment schedule. it now says 2/04. i'm sure it will read that way until about 2/20 or so and then it will ratchet up to 3/04. absolutely no reason to believe that they can deliver anything as promised.

i'm tired of b*tching about this. i seriously am. any ideas on other means to express our EXTREME anger? letters to the company, phone calls?

The real sad thing is that Brian Clevinger had replied to my post on the Yahoo group asking this question. The post was the beginning of January and he replied saying that it was in testing and that it should be out the first part of January. He was the one person from Native that I thought was reliable. Now it seems he has just become part of the norm there. i'm also tired of complaining about this and I honestly don't think that there is anything that could be said or done to get them to change there ways. They have our money and that is all they care about.

I know for fact that thr RTAS plug is in the final beta stage right now,,so it would be my guess that it will make the new release date,,
However,,if you are strung out waiting for it then you all should give the VST2RTAS adapter a go,,i've been using it from day one and it's flawless with AB2,,works a f*kin treat,,i also run it with B4 and find that B4 VST seems a bit snappier than B4 RTAS,,,
Pluss you get to have fun with all of the cool free VST's that are out there,,

    Hi

Im more than confident that you will see OSX RTAS in February as scheduled. In fact, there is still a chance it will be available before the end of January.

Please bear with us for a few more days!

    Thanks

Another slap in the face by NI. On their home page it says that all their software is ready to intergrate perfectly into every professional production enviroment under Mac OS X. Either they are dillusional or they don't consider Pro Tools a professional work enviroment. It's almost humurous watching them dig their hole deeper and deeper with their customers.
