I'm getting some instability in complex projects that include Absynth DXi 1.3.2.

The audio engine will sometimes cut out -- I'll get noises that sound like someone unplugging and plugging in cables into live channels on a mixer. And then the project audio will stop playing. I have to close and re-open the project to get the audio back.

This happens frequently, and only in projects with Absynth.

    System:
    SONAR 2 XL
    AthlonXP 1800+
    1gig DDR RAM
    ECS K7S5A motherboard
    Windows 2000
    Frontier Designs Dakota

    NI problems with Sonar 2.0

You should have a look at the Reactor thread: 'Help! Sonar/Reaktor DXi crash when closing project!'. You will find some fellow-sufferer there.

Absynth 1.3.2 crashes SONAR 2.0 XL 100% of the time for me when used as a DXi plug-in. I add it as an instrument. Then as soon as I play a note on my MIDI controller, it crashes SONAR.

I have no problems with using Kontakt and B4 as a DXi in SONAR.

Looks like half of the threads relate to Absynth crashing the hosting environment. This stinks. I paid $$$ for a product I can't use.

It does work stand-alone however. But of course that's no help to my use in SONAR.

    Help!

    I have a brand new Dell 2.26GHz Pentium 4, 533MHz bus, 512MB of Rambus RAM, Ultra 100 40GB hard drive, Audiophile 2496.

Absynth is fairly stable most of the time, and I'm not positive it's Absynth's fault. I get instability only in large, complex projects with many different plugins, loops, etc.

But since Absynth sounds so good, I tend to use it in most of my projects these days.

    Steven,

Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. I'm glad you're having some success except in more complicated projects. No such luck for me. I start with a new empty project, insert Absynth DXi, play a note, crash.

Hijack any thread you want -- we need more traffic here. :0)

I'm also getting the plugging/unplugging cables sound. I wonder what's causing that.

I don't know why it worked, but I uninstalled Absynth, then cleaned out a few things from the registry since the uninstall wasn't clean like most Windows apps. Then I reinstalled, but this time I said DON'T install the VST interface, just the DXi. I fired up SONAR and it worked--I could use Absynth as a DXi. I then applied the 1.3.2 patch and it still works.

So maybe the problem was that the first time I had chosen to install the VST instrument as well as the DXi, not that this should be a problem, but by JUST installing the DXi, everything is working fine for me now.

As a side, I contacted NI support 6 days ago and never heard back. I called them 2 days ago to see what was up. They said they would take a look. No response. No trouble ticket number.

Not much moderator activity in the forums either. :-(

But on the brighter side, Absynth rocks.

    !

I lose audio sometimes using Absynth in Fruityloops 3.5. It happens most often if I start cycling through different sounds - it's like it gets overloaded or confused but it's not a CPU spike problem . . .

This doesn't happen with anything else - including Kontakt. It's also reasonably rare but I thought worth mentioning since Absynth definitely seems more buggy than other NI apps.

And yes, NI has been very scarce around here lately.

    Virgin Absynth / Sonar Installation

Hola - got a new P4 / with factory soundcard etc... Installed Sonar 2.0 and all the patches they've come out with, though I doubt that they have anything to do with it (they refer to Rewire and installed plugins). Installed 1.3.2 update to absynth. Currently I'm running two Absynth DXi instruments through Sonar with no hiccup yet. Runs much better than Reaktor does... but due to the complexity of Reaktor, I'm not suprised, will post later on after I play further perhaps...

    Good luck -

not quite useless... get something like midi-yoke. i've set a track in sonar to output to a midi-yoke port and channel, which, of course, absynth is set to listen to. poof... my sequence controls the standalone.
