I have my eye on a used 'Jam' on eBay. I have software that came with my Mk3 installed along with Komplete Ultimate 10. Will I need to add more software or licences to be able to add 'Jam' to my work flow? Vender says he will contact NI for license transfer but does not know how long it will take. Just feels a bit like there would be nothing I don't have already. Is this the case?

You need the „licence transfer“. Otherwise the hardware is probably not usable for you (locked).
Jam in general is working with your SW-version from your MK3.

Edit: Jam is just another type of controller for the Maschine SW. Perfect for jamming with pattern or advanched step sequencing.
Since the release of MK3 my jam is gaining more and more dust. I travel a lot, so I hope they‘ll allow pattern jamming (like KK MK2) for the MK3.

I am pretty familiar with what Jam can do but was not aware there is any difference between it's use with the Mk3 to any other Maschine hardware. My main interest is in using it to control ideas, scenes, arrangements etc plus using the touch strips for both mixing and performance effects.
Just curious, were you using any Maschine other than Jam before the Mk3?
I'm interested in the possible work flows using both Jam and Mk3 together. Might add ere that I am new to Maschine, Mk3 being my first, but familiar with Ableton Live and Push (1)
So you are saying I would need the hardware serial number registered to my account to use it at all? Quite apart from having all the software already?

No. Your MK3 Maschine software license allows you to use Jam or any other Maschine Controller. Basically, with one Maschine license, you can run all controllers because the software is the same.

Unless you're buying it really cheap because the seller wants to keep the license you should buy it with the license mainly for 2 reasons:
1st - We never know if one day NI might change its mind decide to only enable the hardware if a specific license for that controller is active. (It's unlikely but you never know...)
2nd - If you ever decide to sell the Jam Controller it's worth more if it has the software license.

License transfer requests usually take anywhere from 1 to 3 days from my personal experience.

Thanks D-One. I had thought of the second reason. I have no reason to suspect vender will not transfer license. He says he will. Will take that long to get here if I get it. eBay auction ends in a few hours and so far I am only watching it. Cheap enough atm though. No doubt I will update if I get it.
Just that you hear stories about buying Maschine with no license transfer.

Jam is great in controlling ideas and scenes. Also the use of touch strips form mixing and modulation is pretty cool.

Before MK3 I used the MK2. Jam was perfect for me to do the things I‘ve mentioned above. Additionally, I‘m still obsessed from the imagination that performance recording (like in Ableton) is coming. Also I had the thought, to use Jam and MK2 simultaneously (both controllers on different groups/sounds).

Meantime, my amount of traveling raise. Therefore we‘re still not able to do performance recording nor the dual use of more than one controller. Finally, with the release of MK3 I simplified my work-life-balance with the new controller adapted to traveling.
For me the MK3 is now much more interesting when it comes to mixing and modulating things because of the screens and Touch knobs. All in one controller paired with an interface and all this usb powered - awesome.

Finally, I‘m going to keep Jam for use in my little home studio or to take it with me for longer journeys - primarily to manage pattern in the idea view. Additionally, there is still hope to use Jam for performance recording via tringering different pattern and scenes. But I‘d like to see the ability to manage pattern/ideas on the screens of my MK3 (like on KK‘s)!

I‘d say exactly that. I‘ve registered JAM and MK3 so I assumed it has to be. I‘m sure D-One is more familiar with such things than myself. After his post I think he’s right and I was wrong ^^.

Since the MK3 release there are reportsabout some overflow at NI-support regarding license transfers. I assume that‘s why your vendor stated this.

Thanks Supercreative. A pretty good rundown of your experience and what I am hoping for. Still a couple of hours on eBay auction but if the price stays low enough I'll jump in. No guarantee of winning it though. If not I will probably buy a new one anyway. It will be interesting to see just where the software goes but there is always the option of recording to a DAW. The Mk3 is certainly a fine unit for travelling. I spend a few nights a week at my girlfriends and just take it in a laptop bag. Also started plugging guitar in and trying recording and chopping up to pads. Some interesting results.

Just got the confirmation email from eBay. Jam is on it's way at a cheap enough price. I was actually seriously contemplating one of these even before the Mk3. Hope all goes well from here with delivery and license transfer.
